Apparently Walt and his animators visited South America, smoked a lot of pot, and decided to make a movie out of it.

A few things may have contributed to this film's diminished significance in the Disney lineage: being a goodwill propaganda piece, the start of a low-stretch when the studio would produce fragmented and less momentous stories, and clocking in at a short and sweet 42 minutes. It seems to me unjustly forgotten and overlooked. The creative juices are really pumping, a unique mix of documentarian travelogue and musical phantasma. I think it's a lot of fun.

Aside from one or two mildly amusing and entertaining cartoons, and some educational value, there's really not that much to this film. I guess you could show it to your kids if you wanted them to learn a little about South America's culture and its people's traditions, but it's ultimately uninspired and underwhelming. If you're a Disney aficionado (like me) who wants to brag about having watched all of the Disney movies, then, by all means, give it a go.

A hidden gem that is one of Disney's best.

Some of the other Disney movies of this era that follow this are worse. The shorts in Saludos Amigos are at least vaguely connected by traveling through South America.

Goofie se morfa un asado, toma mate y dice “macanudo!”. Parece algo digno de un meme de Taringa, lince

This movie might as well have been called "Walt Disney does Good Neighbour Policy". That being said the shorts that make up the movies are on par with anything that Disney produced in this era. The briding segments are ... meh. I thought this would be something only hardcore Disney Aficianados would like, but if you just like Disney in general it's worth checking out, but not a must-see.

Another old Disney movie I had never seen. It is short and I would have considered it more a collection of short cartoons. Easily could have been two cartoons in a thirty minute time slot with commercials. The music was fun and the colors stunning. I enjoyed the mix of live action with cartoons and laughed several times at the antics of the cartoon characters.

Relaxing film that includes some education about the process of creating an animated movie in the Disney studio at the time. The material is all very glossed over, but features some beautiful illustrations and the shorts are cute.

The only real reason to watch this is if you've seen all the other entries in the Disney canon and you want to complete the list. Even though it can't objectively be counted among the Disney canon's absolute worst, it honestly kind of barely even counts as a movie.

A passable mix of documentary with animation. None of the sequences are very memorable, either in a good or bad way.

Not as insane as its sequel, and Goofy's a doof, but that lil' Pedro and primo animation more than make up for it. "Macanudo, hyuck!"

More fun for adults who know their history, although Donald's installment made me laugh and the 3rd/4th cartoons were brilliant. But it didn't improve my life any.

If you've seen or can find the Pedro short, you don't need to watch the rest of this.

Somewhat meaningless for children unaware of the WWII context. I ended up enjoying it for the most part, but it's definitely Third Tier Disney - no plot, and most of this is just a documentary/travelogue with a few short subjects tied in. It really shouldn't be considered part of the Official Canon.

One of Disney's minor projects before completely joining the war effort. A semi-documentary of South-American vibes with 4 cartoon shorts thrown in. Clearly released in a rush because this was what the studio had finished as the war office were talking over their staff. Does have charms. I especially loved the little airplane Pedro! That was good Disney. The rest was very average Disney and the new character José Carioca didn't exactly smell success, but I can understand the lack of polish.

Not bad, like the two shorts with Donold Duck.
