Sambizanga

A powerful portrayal of strong emotions and beliefs that splits the story of a political prisoner in three, his own, his wife's and his fellow revolutionaries. Rather than being simply a film about political struggle, loving devotion or personal strength in the face of police abuse it combines all those things into a broader picture of the nature of revolutionary struggle, one that is neither purely personal or detached, but a messy mixture of both as most human actions are.

Em honra de Sarah Maldoror (1929 - 2020), vítima do corona. Filme poderosíssimo sobre a irrelevância do sofrimento individual frente à liberdade do coletivo anti-colonial muito bem representado na festa final, cheia de alegria. Uma grande homenagem aos que sucumbiram no processo de libertação de Angola. P.S. O Mário de Andrade creditado no filme é o revolucionário angolano e marido de Sarah, pois alguma alma perdida no imdb o linkou ao nosso poeta modernista que morreu quase trinta anos

The acting is a little suspect at times and I was left wanting a bit more. It seems to end pretty abruptly and while the central plot is interesting in theory, it's less so in practice. Still, it's not bad.
