Samsara

I enjoyed it at first but then I realized where it was heading. It's a well directed but simplistic, unidimensional morality movie.

'How can one prevent a drop of water from ever drying up?'

'Is satisfying thousand desires better than conquering one?' If you are interested in such questions, the movie is well worth the watch - otherwise you might probably not be able to finish it. It is slow, sort of meditative.. It is philosophical woven over with a running strand of sex - (the commercial angle ?). I liked the way it touched upon the topic of Buddha's deserted wife and son - I had always felt that they lacked the presence in portrayals relating to Buddha's life.

For the old monk message toward the end.

Has a nice vibe, quite pretty and is a good one to lull yourself to sleep before bed. The story of Siddhartha, which is brought up a few times and is itself this kind of alty 'style' of Buddhism, is taken a bit of a step further in this one, but I'm a bit tired of bickering over questions of what is enlightenment, as if I'm supposed to come away from this story it having benefited me.

What is important in our life? This film offer another point of view.

This was Pema’s movie. What an amazing, resilient and wise woman. At 31 (?), Chung portrays a believable naïve teenager as well as later in film a seasoned mother who knows her husbands wayward ways, the scales of adolescent folly fallen from her eyes. I wasn’t so enthralled by the male lead. I got the homily of giving into quick satisfaction leading to misery. But I don’t understand why the lead would have given into the temptation. There was a BIG scene missing where he fell for Pema.

Awesome movie, but way too long :/
