Reception was reasonably positive, although the actor playing Samson was not thought to be convincing. More serious criticism was aimed at the film's structure, which was not considered to tie the modern storyline and the Biblical storyline together sufficiently.

One of Austria's first epics comes from Alexander Korda who tries to do something similar to what Cecil B. DeMille would do for The Ten Commandments (1923). Mixing biblical references with a modern story. He doesn't really tie them together as it becomes more a story within a story, and therefore the whole Samson and Delilah portion feels rather pointless. What was interesting was seeing the director's wife María Corda handle the lead. Definitely a lot of personality in that face.
