Fine storytelling especially in the first half. Redneck Mifune (Beat Takeshi?) at his best (and picks his nose hair). I find the drama a bit enthralling.

The tragic twist is fairly predictable, and I found the first half of the film to be a little rough going... occasionally slow and occasionally confusing. Otherwise, a pretty good yarn with another intense Mifune performance. The framing is impeccable, with compositions worthy of Kurosawa or Mizoguchi.

Em honra de Kaoru Yachigusa (1931 - 2019) filme #3. É um grande recontar da história japonesa com twist shakespeariano, mas não me lembrava que as narrações dos filmes do Okamoto fossem tão inconvenientes. Box Versátil Cinema Samurai Volume 2.

Not the best Samurai film I've seen but worth a watch.
