Again this feels like a very direct adaptation of a novel. This time with more action, tension & character development than the first one but it still didn't engage me all that much. Entertaining & very pretty to look at but in such a dry yet romanticized way it's hard for me to really get into it. Classically well crafted but lacks anything fresh or even remotely subversive to spice up its conservative style. Even for the time this feels very surface level. Admittedly beautiful surface though.

rvw. momentum was 75. chain duel was fire. but some stuff in the middle like the yoshioka school got annoying. and the illogical romance, especially the THIRD to fall in love illogically lol. and otsu turning down sex. even though i'm tired of all this rape stuff. sasaki was really cool. some cool philosophy stuff

Ano do Centenário de Michiyo Kogure filme #1 O único problema desse filme é essa penca de mulher rastejando atrás do Musashi, tudo bem que o Mifune é muito gato, mas isso é irritante. DVD Versátil trilogia Musashi.

The final battle is fantastic despite, or because of its exhaustiveness, and Kojiro Sasaki is dope as hell.

Second in the series, the young samurai continues to hone his skills and continues to gain a reputation. He is undefeated. Several women swoon after him, but he has chosen the way of the sword and forsakes them for his journey of learning and to continue to improve his skills. In this installment he begins to gain some of the wisdom he seeks. Several excellent sword fights.

Comparable to the first chapter of the trilogy; The story of Musashi Miyamoto continues keeping the vivid color and great samurai battles and cinematography of the first and continues to keep the viewer vested in the story of this duel wielding samurai and his adventure to become the most renowned swordsman in Japan. Inagaki does it again!

Not sure its even necessary to mention that Mifune was great, the start of a change in the character was excellently done and very believable. Never a dull moment.

This one is a little bit better than the first in spite of being filmed entirely in a studio. I still didn't like this one very much, but Takezo was a little less annoying.

Samurai II: Duel At Ichijoji Temple doubles the action, increases the intensity and holds no mercy. Although I like the first one better, This races in at a close second. Also, it offers a lot more variety to the photography, performances and of course, katana duels.

More great photography and action. The story's jumbled at first but becomes very strong by the end.

A little more composed and graceful than the preceding film, but my feelings still aren't very strong either way. It's good.

The best and most action packed film of the Samurai Trilogy, the duels in this are vicious and usually end with a single stroke.

A fantastic samurai film. Toshiro Mifune is, as always, absolutely captivating and Koji Tsuruta plays a fantastic role. The action is not brutally violent but feels real as almost every katana duel is over in seconds. Certainly one of the best films I've seen.
