Saute Ma Ville channels all the despondency, destructiveness and enraged obnoxiousness of teenage girls into a tight thirteen minute sequence consisting of our heroine (below) destroying a kitchen as she attempts to cook, clean and polish her shoes (and, as she attempts to feed and care for it, kill one cat). Reminds me of Scorcese's short about shaving. Goes from quirkily weird to maniac and disturbing in a few well-devised jolts. A smart (and wonderfully shot) debut.

Only comes half-way to reaching what it tries to aim for. It's pretty silly (evident from the goofy dissonant sound-track), but never indulges satisfyingly enough in the mood it's trying to set up.

Viewed August 17, 2015. Sort of a first draft for Jeanne Dielman, but like if Jeanne Dielman was directed by a particularly feisty mid-60s Godard. Pure joy slowly undergoes its inevitable unraveling. The images are anarchic and exciting, and the disjointed soundtrack is a nice touch. An easy film to like, I think. We're all broken in some form or another.

I have witnessed first hand the way that people living in isolation like this become infantilised through pure boredom. A palpable feeling for this could have been communicated better than it is. I wondered if the end was a reference to Pierrot le Fou.

anarchic. apparently seen as a sort of precursor to jeanne dielmann, the similarities extend only to the setting as otherwise it's a polar opposite. clearly the work of an early director, poor production levels. also not as much destruction as i'd hoped.

Kind of like Daisies by way of Jeanne Dielman.

The thought of mental illness really jumps at you, but yes, this is also a reflection of a certain relatable mood or state of mind. I think this is a hell of a first short film, because it dives head-in to the cinematic language, and isn't just speechless but defies verbal summation.
