Savage Weekend

Gotta love classic slasher flicks - in fact this one is so classic that it predates the 80s slasher boom! Every female character gets naked over and over and over again, which is terrific. To quote TV Guide’s review: "A truly reprehensible exploitation film... Ultra-low-budget and shot on grainy color stock, the film is borderline pornography, and the gore effects are extremely gruesome." Yessss

This was baaaaaaad, which is a bit of a shame as the eventual subversion of the plot expected at the outset could have worked pretty well. It's just all so dull and clumsy, and made almost no impact on me. I watched it last night and all I can really remember is recognising a guy from Blade Runner...Rubbish.

Exceptionally awful in every single way, from the performances to the direction to the editing & especially the writing. Terrible lighting in almost every shot, terrible framing, absurdly dull & gratuitous sex scenes, a plot that's barely even there, & a final girl with less personality than a paper bag. The saddest part is that it could've been decent in the hands of a decent crew- there's an openly gay character who's treated fairly, & a decent mystery aspect. But, it's just a pile of bad.
