Quite ordinary and tedious. And I seriously hated everytime Brando mumbling! Anyone can take a nap while he is speaking. Anyhow, he won't finish his lines till you wake up.

A sweeping romantic drama that uses its beautiful Japanese setting to help tell its story of an American Major who falls in love with a Japanese dancer. Fine performances all around from its cast, including subdued work from Marlon Brando. It is on the long side at 2 and a half hours, but every scene works in service to its story.

"Sayonara" couldn't have been less subtle is the message it was delivering, and yet it still moved me.

A decent film with strong performances. But man, is there so much pulp in this script that could have been cut out. You could probably trim off a good 35 minutes here and there and not lose anything important.

Great composition about major culture differences between East and West. This is a love story but also has a sociological side. And that part of the film is very impressed me. And ı just love director work and Miko Taka's acting. Sure Marlon Brando and all cast are fine but these two specimen is something different

Some great performances. Brando should have had the nomination.

Red Buttons and Miyoshi Umeki won supporting acting Oscars for their work here, but those were clearly distributed in response to the film's admirable message since the performances are merely adequate. It's more fascinating to watch Brando. He's in full-on squint and murmur mode, his naturalistic stylings so pronounced that you can fully understand why he would have inspired as much consternation as admiration as he was instigating this seismic shift in the very nature of film acting.
