Scared Stiff

Passable Lewis/Martin vehicle that has serious pacing problems and uneven laughs. The plot and basic set up is encroaching on Stooges territory, and they actually made funnier shorts based on similar ideas.

I was sure I hadn't seen this one before, but I might have a long time ago. I know the "you can get a blackjack" bit was something my buddy and I used to do a lot. And the bongo scene (with Carmen Miranda's final screen performance) is definitely familiar. Jerry's really funny in this one, and the plot is kinda formulaic but still pretty fun. Bonus surprise Hope & Crosby cameo at the end.

This is kind of a remake of "The Ghost Breakers", but it's mostly a fairly thin excuse to let Dean and Jerry do their schtick. If you like them ... and I do ... it's good enough to entertain. Carmen Miranda appears just to provide a reason for Dean and Jerry to join her in a few musical numbers. The three do a fairly elaborate musical number about enchiladas which is reason enough to watch the film.
