Scared to Death

Pathetic really in its attempts at frights. Their idea of a good scare is to randomly cut to a blue face floating outside a window every five minutes. That's not scary, just confusing to the point of apathy. Zucco and Lugosi play off each other rather well though and the filler material is about as good as it gets in these poverty rows. There's just no thrills for the audience to get excited over leaving little left to enjoy. Skip it.

Very hokey with terrible transitions. Bela and the detective were quite funny while the rest of the cast were simply unlikable. Goofy fun.

One of the alltime goofiest segue devices (seriously, I let out a laugh every time it happened!). Zucco was the only one who really had any screen presence in all of this...although Pendleton's battles with the maid did get a bit amusingly piquant in places.

The framing device, from the point of view of a corpse, is an original but hopelessly executed touch, and encases a messy g(h)oulash of never-resolved plot threads between dull stock characters, punctuated by the occasional shot of a stupid mask bobbing outside a window. Lugosi and Zucco are really slumming it here.

Very rough and confusing editing for this cheap scare. It's not exactly a good movie, but I'll try to be positive. Nat Pendleton does have his funny moments. Weird and fascinating seeing Bela Lugosi in economic Cinecolor. And the film does try to make it entertaining with the corpse. But they really should have gotten someone better to actually make this thing.
