Schindler's List is probably the greatest depiction of the holocaust ever. This film is everything everybody cracks it up to be. Liam Neeson in his greatest performance, but Ralph Fiennes steals the show with an absolutely mindblowing performance as the insane, and maniacal Amon Goth. This film always kept me in a state of shock. Kaminski makes full use of his camera and creates a beautiful looking picture in stark black and white. A very saddening film with great performances and direction.

Deserves every single piece of praise it receives. Neeson, Fiennes and Kingsley are all absolutely amazing. I don't believe any of them steal the show but rather compliment each others' performances perfectly. This is most certainly one of the hardest films to watch due to how real it feels, more than once I simply couldn't bare to watch the sheer cruelty towards the Jews. Brilliant film making and, in my opinion, Spielberg's best.

Probably the most saddening film ever made, an insight into the happenings of the Warsaw ghetto's of WW2. And the events which occurred surrounding a man called Oskar Schindler. A must-see for any film fan.

A powerful, haunting, and important movie, although I'm not sure I'll ever have the emotional strength to watch it again. I mean, Liam Neeson and Ralph Fiennes are terrific, but it's just not that common that I'm hanging out with friends and like, "Oh man. You know what would really hit the spot right now? Some SCHINDLER'S LIST. Fuck yeah, play that shit, son!"

Direction, music score, and cinematography are all on cue in a big way in this saddening film. Liam Neeson as well as Ralph Fiennes performances are both mesmerizing throughout the film. From the symbolic girl in the red dress to Oskar Schindler breaking down wishing he could of saved more lives, this will leave you speechless.

to say it with the caustic words of kubrick (and he got the right to say that, look for "aryan papers"): "the holocaust is about 6 million people who died, not about a few hundred who lived.". even though it's a good movie.

This goes from the hokiest ending, I couldve saved one more with this watch and I one more with this belt, and one more with these pants, and one more with these underwe*tackles Oskar* to really powerful with the descendants , I hope for a re-rerelease they show the Schindler Jews 20+ years later it'll be incredible.

The movie is completely black and white, and I'm not talking simply about the lack of visual colour. In Spielberg's typical fashion, the badguys are unmitigatedly evil, and the goodguys noble, clever and enduring beyond belief. This kind of "You're with us or you're Satan"-thinking is as reprehensible as it is dangerous. Moralising becomes devoid of reality; the issue isn't that German camp commanders were demons, the problem is that normal people commited atrocities in those circumstances.

Schindler's List's moments of brilliance are almost completely ruined by some horribly manipulative, melodramatic and overly theatrical filmmaking. There is no denying at times this film is totally brilliant in its harrowing, shocking and deeply moving depicition of the Holocaust. However Speilberg tried too hard to push the message across when he has no need to do so, as the actors and the characters they portray, do it so well for him. A sadly flawed and therefore overrated movie.

many are they who find offense in the existence of others, who, on a delightful whim, will find occasion to log on to a website named "criticker", type a small number into a box labelled "your rating", and then press the "submit" button beneath it. this, of course, is nothing in and of itself, but the real chagrin comes when they discover that, avast! these others had not seen the corresponding film! in response, i am delighted to announce that i, too, shall engage in this reckless provocation.

A whole bunch of modern cliches and caricatures shoehorned into Nazi Germany results in a Holocaust with a happy ending. As usual, the Nazis are depicted as monsters that look like humans instead of humans who committed monstrous crimes. For refusing the notion that anything can be learned from the Holocaust, people like Steven Spielperg are indirectly responsible for the genocides of today and tomorrow.

(youtube.com/watch?v=CZ1GE88NOxU) The horror felt when [link] happened, when the lights went out, and when the true value of the golden ring is learned make it hard to imagine some criticize it for being too mild. This isn't a happy story about those on Schindler's list. It is about the golden ring for all those that weren't. Yes, it didn't fully encompass the Holocaust, but I'm not sure if it ever attempted to.

Schindler's List is an absolute masterpiece. It's easily one of the best movies ever made due to its superb direction, visual style, acting, and subject matter. If you aren't emotionally moved by Schindler's List there is, quite bluntly, something wrong with you.

At times, especially the opening 30 minutes, I didn't think I'd be able to make it through what promised to be a 4-hour slog. But then came the liquidation of the ghettos, and if you're not emotionally galvanized by these vividly portrayed scenes of butchery, maybe it's time to buy a soul. I can report, without shame, that I teared up like a schoolgirl with a skinned knee during the film's final coda. Fantastic job by Spielberg, Neeson and Fiennes, who steals the show as a vile Nazi commander.

This movie really infuriates me. It employs a haunting docudrama approach and features some career-high performances by Kingsley and Neeson, but its overall effectiveness is nullified by the desire to find the positive human spirit amidst the horror. Don't get me wrong - it's still an important and emotional work, but it could have been so, so much more. Kubrick was right about this.

If you want to make someone squirm, put them in front of Schindler's List. Not because it's bad, far from it, but because it's subject matter is incredibly tough to watch. However, at the same time, it clears away the misconception that all Germans at the time of WWII were horrible people. One of my favorite scenes is this movies "girl in red scene", great stuff.

Solid drama that's a bit too sentimental but still powerful. It's a very good film, but I don't really care for Spielberg's approach, which seems to view the film as some sort of communal cathartic experience for those who survived/can remember this period.

It's like being hit on the head repeatedly with a hammer saying "Nazis were evil" on it. I mean, Fiennes can do a bad guy just by looking at the camera, there's no need for all those five minute long "shooting the innocent Jews" scenes. Three hours of the same stuff is far, far too much.

Heartbreaking recount of the holocaust, in an almost documentary-like style. Neeson and Fiennes are great, as is John Williams. So what if it's a little emo, it hit the spot.

A beautifully acted, brilliantly directed masterpiece that everyone should watch at least once in their lifetime. It's essential and unforgettable viewing for one of the most horrific chapters in the history of humanity, and a reaffirming testament to the will and triumph of goodness and generosity even amid the most trying of circumstances. One of the best films on Holocaust, and finally one for which Spielberg's pompous style is adequate.

Simply amazing. It's like they are whispering an unbelievable horror story into your ear. Schindler's List is done with so much care, and discretion it almost gets uncomfortable. ... The visual style, camera work, Ralph Fiennes, Liam Neeson, Ben Kingsley and especially the narration it's just perfection. ... Never expected this from Spielberg, but he blew me away.

For those that think Spielberg is a simple vendor of popcorn movies and cringing sentimentality, watch this and see a true master of his art give it both barrels. The most heinous of crimes portrayed in the most brilliant of ways. Everyone should see this.

A gripping harrowing film about the holocaust. I'm sure criticism can be leveled at the manipulative techniques used by Spielberg, but they're incredibly effective and powerful. The performances, especially Fiennes and Neeson really stand out as well.

Tremendous. The only thing I didn't like was the Hollywood-ish moment at the end where Schindler breaks down and decries his own powerlessness. They shoulda just had him tell everyone that he was now a fugitive, and take off. It doesn't get any more heartfelt though than in the final scene, with all the survivors and their descendants coming up to the camera.

A staggeringly powerful insight into the savage hardship and corruption of Nazi Germany. Through the captivating story of business man Oskar Schindler, Spielberg harrowingly draws you into the world of relentless and unremorseful brutality and mass murder. If anyone can be singled out for praise in this masterpiece, Ralph Fiennes incredulously evil and sinister performance deserves a mention.

Hauntingly beautiful cinematography and the subtle, melancholic music are enough to send chills down my spine. The constant black and white imagery fits the mood and you will be surprised how strongly that rare glimpse of colour will make you feel. One of my all-time favourites.

I "loved" that movie when it came out, I cried my heart out, but today I see it rather differently. The acting is fine, the sets are stunning, but the topic is too special to leave just to some kind of voyeurism on the sinde of the audience. Yet, I think it was important in the 90s.

Depressing. At the end they switched to present day and color and made the whole thing laughable. It was more propaganda than art.

I mean it IS a Spielberg film, so I can't exactly dislike it, its just... this is such a melodramatic hollywood-ized version of events it feels like it trivializes the actual horrors of the Holocaust. 80 poince for starkness, pacing and technical proficiency.

Spielberg's craftsmanship put to good use in this masterpiece. I think the biggest achievement in it, is how it manages to jump seamlessly between being horrific, moving, funny and suspenseful.

One of Spielberg's few flaws, is his failure to flesh out characters. It's problematic in 'Munich', drowned by explosions in 'Saving Private Ryan' and unbearable in 'A.I.'. When acceptable here, it's thanks to how mind bogglingly well he directs suspenseful scenes, effortlessly switching mood and tone. It's pure movie master class, until Liam Neeson - the human equivalent of a tax return - takes the center stage. Then it's strangely detached cinema. Disagree? That's okay: I.. I forgive you.

Pretty dishonest, or at least misguided take on the holocaust. By focusing on the few hundred that were saved while ignoring the six million that were not Spielberg completely misrespresents the holocaust, while simultaneously demanding we accept this as the definitive holocaust film. It's often very heavy-handed; from the red little girl to the 'I could have saved more!' speech, drama usually trumps authenticity in key scenes, and don't even get me started on the conceit of the epilogue.

Good but slightly misses the mark from great because of its Spielberg trademarked emotional manipulation throughout the film. The characters are also all fairly transparent and were well established archetypes long before this came along.

This film is slyly manipulative. At first it may be affecting with the cinematography, the bittersweet violin chords and the dramatic plot, until you realize Spielberg's cheap, theatrical use of the by now overused Holocaust theme to force a sniveling reaction from the audience, the characters being as B&W as the visuals and the film eventually becoming a sentimentalist piece of hogwash for the masses. Typical Hollywood technique. It tries to be brutal, but it's really only ever sensationalized.

One of the most disturbing views of the holocaust, yet also one of the most amazing movies I have ever laid eyes on. Schindler's List may not appeal to everyone with it's pacing, nor may it sit well for some, but it's beautifully filmed and written. Neeson is solid and Fiennes and Kingsley are also really good. Worth a watch if you're wondering who Albert Schinlder was. One of the best movies ever for sure.

Spielberg and "heavy" themes...:/
And all that funny-accent-busines...especially when it comes to Goeth, who was the utmost cliché, like, EVER. And they can't even decide if the German or Polish characters speak English or in their native tongue.
It's really hard for me to take stuff like this seriously. And I kind of think the movie expects you to.
Maybe I could've gotten something out of it, if I were really small and had never heard of the Third Reich or the Holocaust, but.... :/

Wrenching and achingly powerful on top of being just beautifully made and totally captivating for its 3+ hour runtime. A trio of excellent performances by Neeson, Fiennes, and Kingsley and a tearfully arresting score by Williams renders this as a truly exquisite work.

Exceedingly slow, boring, and overly long. The choice to be in black and white was annoying and made worse by the sparing use of color for uninspiring symbols. Music was hit and miss.

If this film really is as melodramatic as everyone claims then I don't care, because not one of the decisions Spielberg and the rest of the team made in forming this masterpiece feel undeserving or out of place. Amon Goeth is one of the greatest foils for any protagonist. Ever. The rest, from the elegant score to the somber cinematography, speak for themselves.

Despite all the awards of this movie, my personal distaste for the very plot is too big. Watching helpless people waiting in fear to be taken away and murdered today - or tomorrow - or the day after tomorrow - or-I-don't-know-when (a penny's worth of fabula, a pound's worth of suspense!) without (this is very important!) not being able to make a sh*t about it... Dark pages of WWII shouldn't be forgotten - but it doesn't mean we must savour them. And yes - Jewish suffering is cliche.
