Entertaining movie that follows a simple tree act structure. 1: Protagonist=Doormat, 2.Lifeman college. 3. Protagonist gets upperhand + finally real morals learned. The first act is okay, but the movie really picks up in the second and third act. Terry-Thomas really steals the show as the antogonist that first outshines and later becomes the butt of the joke, Alastair Sim is perfectly cast as the unscrupulous instructor, and Ian Carmichael is convincing in the transition doormat to conman.

Alastair Sim's 'School of Lifemanship' transforms mild-mannered loser Ian Carmichael into a smug, cheating arsehole so that he can win the hand of Janette Scott. Fun, fitfully amusing but it really springs to life whenever Terry-Thomas is onscreen.

Many gags are too drawn out, but a slight thumbs up.

It's tempting to say that this sort of film wouldn't be made nowadays. But it would, it just wouldn't be as funny and would be much more misogynist.

How to transform yourself from an insufferable doormat into an insufferable asshole in just a few days. At times it's a little annoying at times, but mostly it's pretty funny and the last half hour is really well done, including a great ending.
