Truly inspirational piece of work. Jack Black is a mastermind as Dewey Finn in this outrageously funny mix-up film. School of Rock is fun for the whole family, or just relaxing by yourself. Many hilarious quotes as well as life lessons. Highly reccomeded for music fans and movie goers alike. The story is one that has been done very little, if not at all before. Innstant classic and terrific movie overall, I have seen it personally nearly 50 or 60 times, I find it that great

The child in me loved the idea of reliving my own rock education, but the adult I am thought, "I paid for this education and he obliterated my son's understanding of math." And the eleven year old emo in me thought, "No Korn: FAIL!"

Some funny bits here and there but it's much more of a family film than a comedy. If you want to see what Jack Black humour tuned down for 12 year olds is like then check this out. It's still a pretty decent movie, just not really all that good.

A highlight for Jack Black's career. It managed to be appropriate for most ages while still being funny to a crowd over the age of 12. The kids were less hate-able than one would expect considering they are a large part of the film.

School of Rock is a great comedy and it's tailor made for Jack Black. There's so much fun to be had with this film and it's absolutely hilarious. It's genius because at heart it's a kids film but there's so much humour and great Rock music for adults to enjoy also. Jack Black is absolutely brilliant and his energetic and gleeful performance carries the mediocre supporting cast. And the soundtrack as expected is a winner also with great songs from the likes of Led Zeppelin, Cream & Ramones.

if it wasn't for Black, i'd rate this movie higher, but his over the top acting is too annoying. He keeps it on the extreme end all the time, he has no feel for pacing and delivering. The whole feel-good premise of the movie is cool, and the kids are quite talented, but still, it seems like mr linklater let a "sub" do his job, since it just doesn't feel like one of his movies. Could have been a lot more than a silly comedy if he actually edited the script and kept the reins on Black.

This isn't a technically great film, however while being cheesy and silly it's still a decent comedy. It also mildly tackles issues such as body positivity, which, while not being the most in-depth look into them, it's sure as hell enough for a kids film. While not the kind of film that you'd watch with your uni flatmates for a weekly movie night, it's definitely a great family movie.

God of rock, thank you for this hilarious, heartwarming, and kick-ass movie. The energy of a pitch-perfect Jack Black here is ridiculously infectious in masterfully crafted classroom scene after scene. A passionate artist finds their niche and kids are coming out of shells, learning to stand up for themselves and to The Man, getting fun nicknames, etc. The illegal teacher/missing children bit comes to an unrealistically easy resolution, but no one cares because we’re just enjoying the music.

Really...it's not great. It's formulaic, and most of the kids kind of suck. But it came out at just the right time in my life, Jack Black's playing himself to a point where it's more endearing than not, and the script and direction both have plenty of charm and personality, with a strong anti-authority theme (Linklater's doing?) running through the film that's pretty rare in a mainstream comedy. It's also super progressive re gender roles. As such I find it infinitely rewatchable. FUCK THA H8ERS

School of Rock is a left-field charmer that achieves everything it strives to be. For having such an off-kilter agenda and remaining true to its anarchic agenda throughout, this manages to stay true to the heart of rock and be the kind of film I remember cherishing as a child. And I still do, to this day.

Substitute any other actor for Black and this movie becomes a direct-to-video blip, or doesn't get made at all. Some plot points are treated casually (sometimes to the point of ignoring them), but Black's wild-eyed, fully-committed performance easily carries the day, and he's ably supported by the kids, all of whom can actually play and sing, and by a savvy script that takes the music seriously.

It goes down easy enough, though Black dominates the film in a way that the story seems to recognize is problematic: just as he learns to back off and let the kids have their day, so should the filmmakers have slowly lessened his role and portrayed the kids as flourishing. I suspect that's what they were going for with the big performance, but it feels too little in retrospect, leaving the child characters feeling mostly bland. Joan Cusack is magnificent, though.

School of Rock is a little bit of everything. It has some comedy, drama, and a story that makes everybody feel pretty good about themselves. People can relate to Jack Black's character because he is a loser. We know what it is like to be him because we are him. But, we can also understand that when we are at our most loserest time we also want to do something good which is what this movie shows us. Black's character just wants to show these kids that they can do anything.

Let me just say this now; I hate Jack Black. And a cutesy movie about a down-on-his-luck guitarist who steals his friends job and then convinces a class of children to play boring rock music doesn't help my view on him. I just can not find the will to enjoy this movie; it has music that I don't particularly care for (at least not what the actual band plays), it has a lead that I find increasingly unfunny and the story is just so standard. Supposed feel good movie, well, I felt bad afterwards.

Pretty despicable by my measures. Basically, it lionizes a guy who forges documents to gain entry to a school and get a paycheck, who disregards the school's curriculum because HE feels that kids can learn more through the music that he forcefeeds them than you can through reading, and makes Jack Black as pompous and arrogant and undeservedly famous as ever.
