I liked it. It’s still just a Scream movie at the end of the day, but I haven’t felt this level of enjoyment since Scream 2. Wes’s pacing and direction will be sorely missed, but this one was in capable hands that made it feel different enough from his style yet honored the roots of the original. I liked most of the cast quite a bit and this is probably the most I’ve enjoyed Ghostface in years. Well acted and delightfully gruesome as well. This was way better than I thought it’d be.

If your movie has nothing to say, you can always pretend it's meta. Or, as some would call it, "redundant". Calling someone who didn't like your movie a "toxic fan" is along the same lines as calling someone who told you he hates you an "unsettled friend". Blame your audiences all you will, the problem isn't them wanting more of the same, the problem is you being unable to deliver anything better.

I wish we got 5 scream movies over eight years instead of this. They got too much time to marinate in an obnoxious culture and just enough time to think its clever.

There's good stuff in Scream 5. Some of the new batch do good things, there are some neat nods to what's happened in horror in the last 25 years, and while the old characters are treated very much as legacy characters in terms of scream time, there's an obvious respect for the franchise there. But why go THIS meta if you're only going to retread that plot? I keep waiting for the original twist that made them want to make this movie, all through the end credits, but... I guess that was it.

Fun, a bit actually scary at times and more viscerally brutal than I remember the previous films being. No masterpiece but on the more engaging and thought through side of the meta onslaught we're going through these days. Arquette has never been better, Cox is kind of a dud this time around though.

Don't believe the hype. It is another pointless retread with lame ineffectual commentary on fandom that like 4 sidelines the main characters for fresh faces, only with worse results. The direction lacks the same snap that Craven provided, and it's a pretty workmanlike effort that is only vaguely engaging until the finale, where the pace and energy crank up a notch but not nearly enough to save it from its clone like fate, despite some decent scenes and performances.

I thought the commentary on psycho fan boys was hilarious. The kills were brutal and this is definitely better than 3 and 4 at least. I feel that Wes may have ironed some of the rough edges but I like this sequel anyways.

The thing with this new irritation of Scream is that if feels like a MTV version of the original. Despite marketing itself as a re-quel, this really just feels like a reboot with an excuse to bring back the original cast, and quite frankly they’re still the best thing about this. I will say I enjoy it as is, but this isn’t giving me anything to be excited about going forward because it never dares to take that step. This is an extremely safe reboot, to be completely honest.

So unimpressive that I almost forgot to have an opinion about it. It lacks the sharpness and wit of the Wes Craven / Kevin Williamson entries, offering up in their stead an uninspired slasher story populated with generic characters and too many contrivances. Marley Shelton, playing her blonde cop legacy character from Scream 4, was just about the only highlight. The other legacy characters are either sidelined or humiliated by this entry. It's a bad Scream sequel and merely an alright movie.

I love the irony of how the character talking about how fans don't want shitty new characters, they want legacy characters, just so happens to be one of the shittiest characters in the franchise (along with her bro...aka, the Twins)

Obviously, Scream movies are not art, but at best their whodunit characteristic can be addictive - more than any meta-commentary on fandom this is what constitutes their "fun". Now, this one has mastered the formula to an astonishing degree and is therefore involving and scary, hence a "good movie".

I'm really glad I went into this expecting it to be bad, because my expectations were exceeded! I really enjoyed all of the new additions to that cast, especially Ortega and Barrera at the two titular leads. Their chemistry was very relatable and I felt myself really rooting for them. I thought all of the meta humor and dialogue on "requels" was pretty well-written and didn't feel forced or cringey. Any fans of the original will surely enjoy this! I give 7 finals girls out of 10.

This was awesome. Scream (2022) manages to pass the torch of a franchise (while simultaneously delivering meta commentary on how to pass the torch of a franchise) where so many other franchises fail and fumble. This movie is exactly what it intended to be and exactly what it should have been. The Scream franchise is 5 for 5 in making good horror films, making it one of the only horror franchises without a dud. I have no major complaints, and the actors were incredible, especially Melissa/Jenna.

While I was cautious about a Scream film without Craven (and the second without Williamson writing), Olpin and Gillett are great successors, and this ended up being a contender for my favorite sequel of the series. Arguably the least comedic (still some clever lines and meta moments) and most brutal of the franchise, probably the least predictable too. One of the best casts where I legitimately didn’t want any of them to die. Should please most fans that stuck with the series.

The first in the franchise without Wes Carpenter and the weakest by far. Despite the meta scene about 'Requels' this Scream falls foul to all the same pitfalls it warned itself against. It spends too much time trying to weakly link to the past while at the same time failing to do anything exciting with new characters, scares or kills and even by Scream standards the climax was extremely convoluted and unsatisfying as a result.

Better than 3, on par with 4, nowhere near as good as 1 and 2. Not much character development, unoriginal scares (and not many at that), and they’ve traded creative setups and kills for sheer gore. The motive was also essentially a retread of past motives. Didn’t love it, didn’t hate it; wouldn’t be bothered if I’d never seen it and have no plans to see it again, but if you’re a Scream fan or completionist, it could be worse. It has become a parody of itself.

Definitely the best Scream movie not directed by Wes Craven and written by Kevin Williamson. -5 points for calling it Scream instead of 5cream. I’m not immune to smiling at some of the memberberries (like the Billy Loomis house reveal), but the overall vibe is a bit… tired. The opening scene is the pinnacle of “Mom: we have the opening scene of the original Scream at home.” The killer reveal inspired a real shrug from me of “I don’t care about this character.” Add in a little le cringe commentary about toxic fandom and I’d sadly have to say Scream 3 has been dethroned as my least preferred film of the franchise.

It would be ok as a yet another requel, but it's just too bad the film doesn't know when to stop -- and it never stops -- the annoying, minute-by-minute expository mess of meta-commentary on horror and self-conscious jokes about franchises, elevated horror vs "true" horror and toxic fandom ultimately as the villain by trying to take over a PI and make it great again. It has its moments -- every Dewey scene, the proper slasher material -- but it all feels dire and overlong and lifeless.

I enjoyed this, but it wasn't what I really wanted it to be. Has lots in common with Scream 4- both good & bad things- & thankfully doesn't resemble 2 or 3 all that much. There are a lot of things that I'm not sure about, but I did feel bad when almost everybody who gets axed got axed. Marley Shelton is always fun to see. The mystery was a bit obvious after a point (having there only be one killer would have been an actual clever twist). Not the original, but still alright. Arquette steals it.

Shouldn't have existed. A mashup of what made the past movies bad. Mostly a rehash of the 4th film, but overall it didn't have an original (or a good) bone in its body. Furthermore, the characters were worse. My bet would be that David Arquette insisted on being killed off, to spare himself from any future Scream parts.

This is a wild ride, parts of it are really poorly acted especially in the first half of the movie. But once the og cast show up things start to get better and then things really take off, it's probably the best of the scream sequels it's much more entertaining than previous ones. I like what they did with this, the kills weren't the best but there were a couple stand outs. The meta & satirical bits are refreshing to see hit better than they did before. Very fun and scream fans will be pleased.

It's a difficult review to do: on one side this movie doesn't make any sense in the writing/plot aspects, on the other the massive number of citations from the first Scream are extremely enjoyable. From the first movie of this franchise come the comedy parts which are well blended with the raw side of this Scream. Good requel I suppose

It was surprisingly decent. It follows the same old rules of the Scream franchise but it introduces some old characters and lets them play a bit more in the background while introducing some interesting new players in the game. Sam and Tara were good characters and so was Mindy with her extensive horror movie knowledge. It's still a whodunnit murder mystery and maybe the killers are a bit too obvious, but I was entertained enough. Not a bad reboot.

Felt a little more serious while still maintaining some amount of humour. I did laugh out loud a couple times. Some brutal kills, but I mostly come to Scream for the meta and the twist. The meta would be overbearing if it was any other franchise, but it's thoroughly enjoyable here. The twist wasn't as satisfying as I would have liked, but it wasn't terrible, and the journey to it was entertaining. I got no massive complaints here, I like Scream quite a bit.

Scream still works in 2022. The meta element works, but at this point with how we’re bombarded with self referential works you have to ask how needed it really is. The little shots at elevated horror made me laugh. Loved the final scene being set in the same house as the original party. Stab being watched on tv by one character and the same scene playing out behind her had me grinning (Wellsian? Heh). The most violently brutal in the series. Gotta keep up with the times.

So many things wrong with this film. The characters are unlikeable, the kills are predictable, and the identity of the killer is lazy. Plus, the filmmakers have no idea how time works. Matt and Tyler's meta mostly arrives as lampshades and the new characters are too vaguely drafted for it to dive beneath the surface, hard to read regarding where a new gen stands in relation to their media consumption. Even 4 did this better. As horror directors they're also a bit flavorless and while the movie has some choice winks at modern film's creative bankruptcy it feels incomplete, legacy requel commentary and the obsessive fandom satire are mismatched and leave the ending unsatisfying.

It has the Scream spirit and it also respects the original. Neither the opening or the finale are as good as the first, but that would be tricky at the best of times. The film needed more humor and deeper mystery/twists. The kills needed spicing up as well. But I do think it's worth watching if you liked the first movie. It's the 2nd best in the franchise, although admittedly that isn't saying much given the utter crap we've been given over the years.

An examination of whether a film can be real when it’s an obvious fake but if it replicates it close enough does that make it authentic. sees and slams the end games for modern horror whether it’s elevated horror or requels for their boring/cliched treatises on GRIEF AND TRAUMA. I'm of two minds about the reveal of the killer. I like how it works in the film, but isn't it about time to stop letting entertainment industry folks wheel out "toxic fans" as an excuse to point the finger at customers for not liking mediocre retreads of existing properties? I'm willing to give this film a pass since it's decidedly not a mediocre retread and the scenario in here is actually pretty clever, but I find this finger pointing really distasteful.

Despite its reliance on the original formula, "Scream" manages to be fresh and innovative while remaining faithful to the franchise's roots. The kills are brutal, the self-referential humor is intact, and the original trio of Sidney, Gale, and Dewey are back and as badass as ever. The new cast is excellent, and the film manages to update the franchise's approach to feel reenergized and new for a 2022 audience. The inclusion of a CGI legacy character may not sit well with some fans.

Worthy of the scream name the new cast really excels, most notable Berrera and Ortega. It is a fun addition to the series and creates a new generation of Ghostface and his antics. As a general fan of the Scream franchise, I enjoyed this fifth film, as well, which more or less fits in with all the rest. It's definitely missing a bit of Wes Craven charm, though. Craven was always able to craft these movies in a way that appeals to both horror lovers and haters alike, and this one doesn't do that, but that's okay. Anyone who is watching won't start here. If they did...I kind of doubt they'll go back to the originals.

Surprisingly well made re-quel (to use their own term), that nails the meta fun of the original, with one ongoing "open/close fridge/cabinet door jumpscare" gag being particularly amusing. This was surprisingly good. It was apparent that the filmmakers have a respect for the series. It uses the old characters quite well while introducing a younger cast. I just didn't find the new ones that interesting and could have spent more time with the old ones; especially Campbell and Cox could have used more screen time. Arquette's Dewey has the best and surprisingly emotional arc. Still, apart from more meta, it doesn't really bring anything new to the table - it's just a good re-mix.
