Its not that bad as most of the people are saying. If nothing, at least you have chance to see and learn about one of the greatest sports legends that ever lived.

The issue with these kind of movies is that they are often done just too much 'by the numbers'. They give you the story but they often do not aspire for anything higher. It's just okay, it's got okay acting and okay cinematography and soundtrack, but it's never great. It drags on a bit in places and when you really want to learn about the horse and his training, you just get to see the characters struggling with money and family issues.

"One of the earliest religious disappointments in a young girl's life devolves upon her unanswered prayer for a horse" (Phillis Theroux). If this quote makes you nod your head, you'll probably like Secretariat, a horse movie to affirm the feelings of any horse-movie hater. It is a nice, heart-warming film in the classic sports-film mold, appropriate for families and horse-lovers. I doubt anyone could hate this movie. I rather liked it.

Why do people like these? I don't care at all about any hoses. :(

Typical Disney fare. Don't look for any suprises here, but it's well made and well acted.

The horse is obviously unbelievable, but Wallace just ruins it all with all the Jesus songs and such... And Diane Lane is trying so hard that it becomes embarrassing. I only rooted for the poor jockey.

A hallmark movie with nicer visuals. The script tries to make the story of the huge favorite hammering everyone else "inspiring" by turning the owner of a competing horse into a ridiculous, preening villain. It doesn't work. None of the actors lift their character beyond stereotype, though at least Malkovich is fun to watch.

I feel like I've seen this done before and done better (Seabiscuit). Secretariat just feels like a glossed-over, shallow Disney movie without a lot of artistic quality. If you're looking for a family movie to watch, you could do worse, but I wouldn't recommend Secretariat to the discerning movie-watcher. Really over-the-top performance by Lane as well; much better in Unfaithful (obviously a different type of movie).

In case you ever wanted two hours of cornball "inspirational" lines said by good actors who seemed to realize halfway through that this would not garner the same acclaim that the equally cheesy The Blind Side did so they stopped trying. It's truly not worth your time.

The soundtrack of *Secretariat* is just like the film itself: derivative of other horse-racing films, boring in the family scenes, but exciting once hooves begin to thunder in Dolby Surround 7.1

"Watching Secretariat is an experience as antithetical to watching an actual horse race as it gets." - Simon Abrams

Secretariat is a by-the-numbers sports-hero picture with an inexpressive hero (horses look great in motion, but they can't carry a close-up) and a preordained outcome.

Unsurprisingly this film is a lot like Seabiscuit. Still, it's entertaining, has a great cast (it's full of "Hey! It's That Guy!" moments) and is visually striking.

Run of the mill wholesome Disney fare. If you don't know exactly what's going to happen by watching the first 10 minutes you haven't seen enough movies.

I think you need to be a horse racing fan to enjoy this - and I am not. At least with National Velvet and International Velvet films they were interesting to all even if fictional.

It's tough to make a "Rocky" type movie about a horse that stomped the crap out of the rest of the field.

Good cast, but a little boring at times. I liked the effort they'd put into creating an authentic 70's feel. *Recommendable

Secretariat isn't about a horse. Or a jockey. Or a trainer. It's about a horse owner, an upper-class housewife. There's not much in jeopardy even if the film will relentlessly strive to assure you everything is. Any number of Disney films do better at paying tribute to the animal. This one venerates the person who owned it. Secretariat was a Time cover story. You don't sense that watching this. Rather than showcasing the greatest racehorse ever, they opted the rich owner could be the underdog.

HORSE MOVIE, I hate horse movies, although it is alright for a horse movie, as it is a true story and all.

"We've had us a film about a horse/ Seabiscuit got Oscar nods, of course of course/ So another race horse on us they'll force: Secretariat!"
