An entertaining, but not much more whodunnit. While occasionally funny, it goes a bit too far into being self-aware.

Constantly silly (often in that tiresome forced manner). Constantly (more or less) entertaining.

My best prediction for what happened here is someone saw Knives Out and dug an old first draft out of a drawer somewhere and put a bunch of famous people in it just like in Knives Out! and there’s certainly some fun moments - especially from Saoirse Ronan, who is unbelievable - but a lot of gags didn’t elicit much laughter from me and the murder mystery element is really undercooked. B-tier streaming movie elevated to cinema status by a great cast.

Clearly they used all their collective creative juices on the first scene, leaving an uninspired, unfocused drag for the most of the subsequent running time. And most annoyingly it's nowhere near as cleaver as it seems to think itself. A shame because the cast is game, and the premise had potential.

A mash-up of Knives Out and The Grand Budapest Hotel, and by that, I mean that this *wants* to be a mash-up of Knives Out and The Grand Budapest Hotel, but comparing See How They Run to either of those films does this one no favors. With neither the visual wit nor the compelling characters of those works, this lackluster attempt at the whodunnit genre is awfully ho-hum. While not without the occasional funny gag, much of the comedy feels strained, and the mystery element is undercooked at best.

An unsatisfying mystery, limp lampshades, and poor editing combine to slowly strangle this effort, but Saoirse Ronan forces herself through the clumsy fingers like crisp fresh air - she is tremendously charming and thanks to her a few jokes land; everything else falls loose and apart. Disappointing.

This has elements of 24 (the split screen function) and Wes Anderson films about it. Primarily the Wes Anderson film comparison (mostly Grand Budapest Hotel, with the hotel featured having a strong emphasis on Art Deco furnishings, although another scene at a police station with rows of people at typewriters etc. seemed reminiscent of The French Dispatch), due to the quirkyness of the characters, the nice use of colours and the instrumental style music played (often 1940s style jazz, I believe).

A made-for-streaming or made-for-British-TV movie that somehow ended up on the big screen. It's not a complete waste of time, but with the sequel to another whodunit, Knives Out, on the horizon, it was hard not to notice the various aspects where See How They Run fell short. Like an Agatha Christie tale, a lot of things felt dated, and there was too much reliance on meta humor and flashy editing in an attempt to freshen things up a bit.

Ripping good fun. Skirts the line between homage and pastiche quite expertly. Rockwell and Ronan are brilliant throughout.

It's a lot of fun, Saoirse Ronan and Sam Rockwell are superb. Having not seen The Mousetrap the mystery worked for me too.

Wes Anderson-lite, which isn't a bad thing, but Ronan's acting really shines. I am guessing that thanks to Knives Out, we are getting a glut of murder mysteries, which is also showing me how good of a film Knives Out is for absolutely nailing it. So, good job, See How They Run.

Ronan and Rockwell are enjoyable together. The meta-comedy sometimes works, but I wouldn't say that this is that funny. In a nutshell, it's just a solid whodunnit, which is funny because it makes fun of whodunnits not doing a whole lot. There's nothing to hate here, but nothing to bathe in lavish praise.

Witty Repartee: The Movie, and I say that in a loving way. Strong ensemble cast led by Rockwell, Ronan, and Brody; Ronan is probably the standout. This "whodunit within a whodunit" may not have enough meat on the bone for a lot of viewers, especially in an American audience that does, as the movie proclaims, tend to need more action, but it breezed along at a fairly quick pace, filled with snappy dialogue. Being obviously & explicitly meta can often be quite lame - but it's a benefit here.

Considering the "talent" on display here, this was quite simply appalling dross. There were around 4 mild chuckles from the audience when I watched it. Everyone dialled in their performance under the #"tongue in cheek" #"aren't we witty" #"what a great idea for an ensemble period drama" hashtags and it moved from slow, to boring, to annoying in the space of just 95 minutes. So much expectation of a great cast, only for it to be completely ruined by lacklustre direction and an god awful script.

A meta murder mystery. Too cute for its own good, but while the actual murder mystery itself isn't all that great, the self-referential comedy does sell a lot. The cast does decently with their archetypes, Ronan is the standout.

Worth watching for fans of the genre but plays into the recent trend of the "meta" movie, which is already getting a bit old.

Has its moments of humor, but the characters and the mystery leave no lasting impression whatsoever.

I found the first half hour of this film to be profoundly irritating, especially Adrien Brody's performance, and while it eventually won me over a little, I never really got over my initial impression. It's an admittedly clever film, but not nearly as clever as it thinks it is, and boy does it think it's clever. Around the 3rd or 4th time it winkingly did something really obviously, I contemplated walking out on it.
