Time travel movies are a dime (or one score ha'pennies) a dozen so I no longer go into them expecting to be blown away by fresh takes on the concept. Instead of attempting to try something new with the science that would have just been pulled apart by cynical armchair scholars like myself, this film decides to embrace the cliches and instead offer a change in the way of characters and setting (though, those are pretty cliche, as well, mind you). Luckily, that was just enough.

When you do a time travel movie, you can go for either the scientific beats or the emotional beats. For all its good intentions, in its attempts to do both, SYY ends up not really hitting either target. So we get a time travel movie which arbitrarily follows and ignores its own rules, and a movie about friendship and family that uses too much shorthand to set up the relationships and their consequences. A pity, all the more so for the bits where it works.

This is an good movie that has a nice mix of drama and science fiction. The cast does a good job here, especially the 2 leads. Overall I would recommend this film.

[Didn't finish] It feels like they were actively trying to hit all the tropes of a hood movie and of a time travel movie. The combination of these genres had potential for feeling like something new, but instead it ends up feeling derivative and inhabited by several two-note characters that aren't interesting enough to care about.

All the effort they did to point out how racism is bad was racist. Also, Stefon Briston didn't make any research about time travel obviously. So many mistakes and plot holes made the movie unbearable.

Flick was very light teen time machine story. But Stefon Bristol did extra good character directing. Eden Duncan-Smith shined in the lead. I liked the very strong female drive in this story.

Sort of liked the main character, but obviously you compare this to other stories about time travel and there are way better stories than this one.

I don't get too caught up in the rules of time travel. I understand movies will break their own rules, and it's fair to criticize that... I guess I just don't think of it too critically since time travel doesn't exist anyway. So on that note, I thought this was fun, but not especially memorable. But that's okay, because I was entertained the entire time, it hit some good emotional beats and it didn't overstay its welcome at all. Not substantial but worth a look.

A weird little self contained storyline where the idea of time travel leads to absolutely no resolution. I liked it very much up until the last 5 minutes. There was some meaning, some consequence and decision making that showed development. That was all erased with a rather terrible ending or lack thereof sequence.

The actions and choices of the opressed usually make very little difference in the end - the oppression just might take a different form. It's kinda of a fun movie which doesn't take itself too seriously - which is definitely a good thing and let's time travel serve as the vehicle for the story instead of it being the sole purpose of the movie.

*Mild spoilers* While somewhat unwieldy at times, Bristol's masterful balancing act of using the fun and frivolity of time travel tropes to explore the sad state of racially charged gun violence in the US (and its inevitability no matter which path you take) is extremely effective and quite moving, helped by a winning, charismatic performance from Duncan-Smith. A case where the degree of difficulty deserves credit; an ostentatious (but amusing) cameo in the opening scene is a nice touch.

A low budget movie that kind of just did the same thing over and over again, without any regards to to even looking like actual science. I'm taking off a lot of points for having one of the worst endings I've ever seen. Felt like it may have been a movie made in a videography class at Bronx Science.
