A surprising gem. Given the trailer I was expecting a silly, fluffy comedy, but this is actually a charmingly funny, bittersweet and touching little movie. Carell and Knightly are both excellent, and actually work well together. The screenplay is very tight too. This is a movie that will disappoint some looking for a generic rom-com, but might please a few looking for something with a bit more substance and it has to be said Scafaria judges the mood of this movie just perfectly. Recommended.

This movie starts off really funny and it has a good premise. However it ends up being more of a typical romantic comedy by the end of the film. The screenplay makes a lot of the characters choices unbelievable. This film has some good moments but overall it disappoints.

An incredibly cute movie and yet another movie that points out the fact that Steve Carell needs to be in more romantic comedies than just regular comedies. I thought that Knightley and Carell were a really cute pair on screen. The film made me laugh several times and even cry. I liked the fact that the movie was about the world ending and yet it seemed like the two main characters were just learning how to truly live. I just thought this was excellent. I highly recommend it.

Carell and Knightleys performances were both great and very heartwarming. The kind of character Carell plays best is the depressed but comedic guy such as Michael Scott and now Dodge from this movie.

I'm a sucker for love stories, and while this may not be the strongest one I've seen, it's still entertaining. Carell and Knightly are really good and so are some of the supporting characters. I don't personally have to be in the mood for movies like Seeking a Friend for the End of the World. I'd say this is as good as American Ultra, Sleepwalk with Me, This is Where I Leave You, and others among those lines.

Not nearly as funny as I was hoping it would be, but still a pretty well-made and engaging romantic comedy. Carell and Knightley are both very good, and the short appearances by TJ Miller, Gillian Jacobs, Rob Corddry, and especially Patton Oswalt are highlights. Definetely an entertaining movie, if not a great one.

Starts with a bang with some hilariously bleak satiric observations as to how the human community would respond in the face of literal impending doom, and then completely changes its tack, becoming an overly familiar tale of one middle aged man's attempt to get laid on a road trip, even largely discounting the dystopic set-up until the hokey finale. The two stars try their best, but Carell's distant sad-sack is hard to connect with, and the less said about Knightley's MPDG archetype, the better.

Everything about it is mediocre. Apart from Penny (calling the end product of this badly written character and Knightley's atrocious performance "mediocre" would be abusing the word)

Hits the feelings it is going for wonderfully. The end of the world is coming, and you could either destroy shit or just try to enjoy life in a quieter, more meaningful way. Dodge finds a girl who, even for a short period of time, gives the rest of his life meaning. This movie is really moving and made me sad by the end of it (btw, the ending is fantastically done). Not really a funny movie (it has its moments), but a deeply affecting drama.

Crushing, but really, really good. It's basically a sweet, touching character study/romance that cannily uses the oncoming apocalypse to throw its two protagonists into one crazed situation after another to see what sticks, what matters, and what moves us. It probably doesn't deserve to work as well as it does--it's episodic and schematic--but Carell and Knightley sell the hell out of this material. I could've spent another three hours with these characters, easily.

It's a really funny flick in a fucked-up kind of way if you want to take the humor as it comes, but it's obviously not just a comedy and not just a drama, it's an intriguing melange of a few different genres and themes. Steve Carell is just so goddamn masterful with this character that he just commands the primary scenes in the flick. The name "Dodge" was an interesting play on words that I appreciated. How about that last 20 minutes or so? Amazingly well-crafted ending. A pleasant surprise.

I thoroughly enjoyed this movie. I thought the casting was spot on and it combined a comedic beginning with a bittersweet end rather nicely. While parts might have been a bit hamstrung or predictable I thought the actors were so true to their performances that they were easily overlooked. Surprising work from Scafaria considering how much I absolutely hated Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist.

I loved this movie. Seeking a Friend for the End of the World is one of the most criminally overlooked films of 2012. The chemistry between Carell and Knightley is really special here; they both give great performances and carry the film wonderfully. This film manages to make you smile and laugh, but it also breaks your heart. The film builds perfectly to a devastating (abrupt) ending, but it's fully satisfying all the while. I cannot recommend this film enough.

The first half reveals a perfectly set, richly enjoyable comedy. The second half reveals that no one is perfect. The dramatic sequences begin to roll in increasingly, while the once watertight script becomes Edam: cheesy and filled with holes. The ending has sufficient emotional power, though, and there are enough very good moments in the entire film to consider it a winner.

Music has the Blues to help face...having the blues. That's sort of how this worked for me, only in a movie. I came out pretty much depressed, until I thought of that--and the only reason I got that far was because everything else worked so I kept pressing. All I can say is, been there done that, even the dog. The philosophical implications are legion.

It seemed more as a missed opportunity than a success. This is a great concept for a movie and you can either go very serious or make some sort of comedy-drama like this film, but when you do the last, go all the way. There are some genuine great scenes here, but it could have been more, better. Very much loved the character of Keira Knightley, though. She's absurd, funny, tender... Great performance.

There were plenty of little things that I enjoyed in this film. Starting with a failed Armageddon-style mission; Carell's sense of acceptance; Knightley's enduring passion; the conviction to the premise. The chemistry between Knightley and Carrell is what you'd expect and that lack of electricity actually works better for the plot. The film isn't about the end of the world, but the value of the relationships we form in our short time. It still unfortunately drags in pace throughout though.

This is an ideal counter to ID4/2012 style end of the world films that gloss over the trauma people on the ground would have. A great deal of that's because writer/director Lorene Scafaria fuses genre elements with a romcom background. The world-building intelligently shows how corporations and preppers respond to impending doom. But the romance is compelling--with Knightly avoiding stereotypical Pixie Manic Dream Girl energy. Most of all, it earns a sweet ending via a fantastic final shot.

With an interesting take on apocalyptic stories this film takes you on a beautiful journey of love and tragedy. Its lovely soundtrack complements the robust script and the amazing job by both leads. What seems to be a dark comedy at first, turns into a lovely and realistic adventure between these characters that ends in a heavy introspection for the viewer. One of those films that knocks on your hearth without notice but you're glad it did.

This is a very heartfelt, cute story of who and what really matters in the end. The small moments and details that otherwise might go unnoticed become important when there's no more time. Carrell is a talented actor and it's good to see him more outside of his comedy roles. Keira is great in this one, too, reflecting just the right kind of cute and funny befitting the character. My only issue with this movie was that the end of the world seemed far more peaceful than I'd imagine it to be.

Many other movies have thrown odd couples together and convinced us of the quick flame that ignites, of the tenderness that's shared, of the connection between two souls who find each other in extraordinary circumstances. Seeking a Friend fails to stick the landing on any of these three jumps, and the viewer is left to receive the assertions without the compelling evidence. I found myself tenuously willing to accept the terms as offered, but I wouldn't fault anyone for declining the invitation.

This had great potential but you simply cannot make such an ambitious project so short. The characters have barely evolved until the end and everything is set to such a short timescale - from events, themes, setting... The movie is still enjoyable and I like the warmth of it. Spice it with a bit more powerful soundtrack , add 60 minutes and you could get a truly magnificent picture.

Ok, so Carell and Knightley don't have the best chemistry. Even so, they both do a remarkable job with their individual roles. The story comes off as a bit episodic, but that's forgivable due to it being something of a "road trip" movie. I loved the black humor aspects and the leads were good enough to draw me in emotionally. Some might complain that the end is too cliche and predictable, but I was invested enough in the characters to overlook that possible flaw.

I felt that Knightly and Carell were enjoyable to watch and the supporting characters worked well too all showing different ways that people were coping with the end of the world. It has some pacing issues and is rather depressing, but even so I really enjoyed this movie.

A romantic comedy set during the apocalypse is a unique enough combination to give what could have been an otherwise generic movie a boost. It's pretty funny at times, and doesn't shy away from inappropriate humor while avoiding becoming raunchy or vulgar. And I won't lie, I may be a sap but I was pretty affected by the romance. I've read some claim that the love story was rushed and there isn't any development between Carell and Knightley to make this believable. I disagree entirely. A nice feel good film, perhaps not as heavy as I thought it could have been given the subject material. Lots of really funny little moments, mostly due to an excellent supporting cast, but it isn't ever a gut busting affair. There are things that don't totally work--the attempts at "awkward humor" feel forced, as does a late development--but one can forgive it when so much else does. Strong script and direction; as a look at human behavior in the face of apocalypse, it's highly believable, and as a romantic comedy-drama, it's funny, moving, and sweet. Steve Carell's performance accumulates power as the film progresses (it's superb), Keira Knightley is warm and unaffected, and the large supporting cast is excellent.
