19-year-old Ah Loong is in charge of a stall selling pirated VCDs. Ah Loong is an incurable romantic who loves to read and write poetry. Quite content to carry on being the Romeo of the slums, Ah Loong's life takes a sudden turn one day when a Malay schoolgirl, Orked, arrives at his stall, in search of films starring her favorite actor Takeshi Kaneshiro. Love blossoms between Orked and Ah Loong, although there are social and racial pressures that stand in their way. (en.wikipedia.org)

Brilliant film by the late Yasmin Ahmad. The dialogues are witty and the interaction between the characters feel genuine. It broke quite a few boundaries in Malaysian film making alright. For one, the Malay characters' speech seems uninhibited compared to other Malaysian film and I believe it was implied that two Malay characters had sex off screen. Bold and refreshing film.
