I left this movie with two burning questions. 1) Is this a great movie with a bad execution, or a bad movie with a great execution. And, 2) Who the hell agreed to greenlight this? The answer to #1 is that this is clearly a bad movie, no matter how hard Anne Hathaway acts or Matthew McConaughey mcconaugheys. The answer to #2 may never be discovered.

I'm not going to spoil anything, so I'll just say that I'm always happy to see any filmmakers beyond David Lynch, with enough confidence to manifest their abstract ideas. (the audience that I watched it with, hated it)

imagine you're in a screenwriting class and the guy with no self-awareness pitches his script which was inspired by binging Black Mirror the past week.... and then Matthew McConaughey agrees to star in it

You don't so much as watch this movie. It's more like it happens to you. I'm pretty sure this counts as a spin-off of Adaptation, as only Donald Kaufman could've written this and gotten it greenlit.

From the Academy Award nominated writer of 'Dirty Pretty Things' and 'Eastern Promises', who also wrote and directed the overrated 'Locke' and created 'Who Wants to be a Millionaire?' (wait, what?)... A thriller that's so bad that I actually welcomed the change half-way through with open arms. It's a shit show, but I find what it tries to do (and spectacularly fails at) genuinely interesting.

This movie is truly terrible but it goes so hard with its total batshittery that I kind of have to admire it. Worth watching just for the multitude of scenes that will make you inadvertently do a Psyduck impersonation. McConaughey trying so hard and fully acting his ass off only adds to the hilarity.

The whole movie is weird and grows only weirder. At one point you just want the movie to go totally batshit insane and you know right from the start when that will happen. The anticipation for some utter bullshit explanaition just keeps on building and building and when it finally comes it either makes or breaks the movie for you. You can only watch the movie once since the build-up to total insanity is what makes the movie worth watching. McGnocchi channels some serious Nicolas Cage in this.

What an utterly fascinating clusterfuck of a movie. I honestly don't know how to rate this. It's a terrible film that is extremely entertaining for all the wrong reasons. Nobody should see this, yet I want everybody to watch it. Who thought this was a movie that should be made? What kind of dirt did they have on all of the A-List cast members?

(Spoilers? I guess...?) It would take me about ten seconds to explain the very lame writing that gave away TULLY's twist long before the reveal (and thus ensure you never fall for that bullshit again); it takes Steven Knight even less to give this whole game away. Okay, maybe 90%, with the remaining 10 given away over and over again every five minutes for the next hour. Essential viewing for connoisseurs of bewilderingly misguided sincerity.

It's like that accident on the side of the road that you know you shouldn't look at but you do anyway. The twist is insane, sure, but everything leading up to it is just as crazy.

It's unbelievably ridiculous and amateurish from the first second and gets funnier and funnier as you go. Famous actors somehow giving it their absolute worst, a script and plot twist that make zero sense.. A must-see if you love amazing movie fiasco's (like I do)

Well, that was pretty bizarre. I couldn't call it predictable, that's for sure. That's not to say it's good. It's not. The screenplay really is awful and I'm sure it's not their fault, but the performances are laughably bad too. The big twist just comes out of complete nowhere and it's not earned and it's not satisfying. I just don't even know how this got made.

Up until a certain point (the twist) it actually builds some good tension and unpredictability. I was thoroughly enjoying it. Then the twist comes and I was fine with the twist but there was so much movie left that it became predictable and a bit of a slog. People say that this is insane and weird, like Book of Henry, but I didn't find that or this that weird. In fact, I felt it didn't dive deep enough into insanity. Go completely off the rails here and you have a fun-as-fuck flick.

"Serenity has more commitment, confidence and energy than a dozen normal films, all of it wildly misguided." This movie is preposterous, and I really like it. It's unique, it held my attention throughout the entire runtime, and I can't remember the last time I got this many chills--maybe never! I'll admit it never quite comes together but it's got so much flavour that I can't not gulp it down.

Completely numbs the viewer's sense of quality, coherence, or really anything that typically makes a film good, before then weaponizing that brain damage to make stupidity look spectacular and the profound look nonsensical. A new classic in post-post-post-post-postmodern film.

While its reputation as a catastrophe is unwarranted (it may have been more entertaining if Knight had followed his instinct into more lurid catastrophic waters), this is really just a dull, shaggy dog thriller whose central twist doesn't work because of its arbitrary set-up and execution (one can imagine another version which has some "TRUMAN SHOW" like fun in the first half). A great cast give uniformly terrible performances, with Clarke especially delivering a pitifully hammy villian.

Silly plot revelation but it didn't ruin the movie for me, before the twist it was actually an intriguing, sweaty over-the-top performance fishing-themed tropical thriller. Good fun.

SPOILER ALERT: Well, if you have been to Mauritius and recognised Cap Malheureux, coupled with the absurd "out of place" salesman, you would question where this film was going from the outset. You don't get mountains like that in Florida. So, with that discrepancy simmering in the back of my mind, you get to enjoy a corruption of "the Sixth Sense" meets "Mud", meets "the Truman Show". and despite the crappy reviews, I quite enjoyed it. Totally ludicrous, but fun, when you could hear the dialogue

Loses its crazy pace when that twist takes place -- boy's game programmed to reconnect with war veteran KIA dad while nurtures idea of killing his abusive and violent stepfather -- but the first hour is pretty cool in its 90s cheap thriller pleasures -- sex scenes with Diane Lane's character, the flashy shots that lead to nowhere, McC's over the top performance, Hathaway's totally nonsense character. It's all there: the steamy and dreamy vibe, the serious but bonkers narrative, until that twist.

I'm not too sure how great this was. Though initially it seemed like the movie was off to a strong start, backed by great actors and actresses, towards the end of the movie it seemed as if things were getting lost. With some corny lines, and scenes. I can't help to laugh during the film as it was nonsense. The way the film ended seemed like they really could have done more with it.

It's not good, but it can be entertaining. As a suspense film it fails spectacularly, but the way the plot builds and turns, it becomes one of those "so bad it's good" experiences. By the end of it I was sighing aloud and wondering who green-lit the script and why such well-known actors signed on for it. Also, watched it during quarantine based on a friend's "this movie is ridic" recommendation, so it'll forever have a special place in my heart in that regard.

This movie is crazy. It takes its premise with the utmost seriousness never realizing its own stupidity. I don't know how the in Plymouth Island they got McConaughey and Anne Hathaway on board to do this. What's even more crazy is that they both seemed to give it their all. I guess in a short summary: this is so bad it's actually kind of brilliant.

I walked into this one without knowing anything beyond the one-sentence description accompanying the movie. I was pleasantly surprised. I expected a run-of-the-mill drama where the hero is caught between bad and very bad decisions. Instead, it became a discovery of self. Sure it wasn't the greatest acting, but I found it rather refreshingly different with a mid-movie twist I really didn't expect.
