A story that follows the protagonist Heinrich's life through his journey to conquer the Mt.Everest. More than the mission, its the turns and twists in his life that crosses roads with the fall out of WW-II along with his own personal devils. Lovely locales, strong dialogues, good production values and excellent supporting cast liven up what otherwise would have become a staid film. A must watch.

Harrer's adventures are quite engaging, but the script is too thinly spread, trying to stay faithful to the novel. This results in a film that's stuck between being a documentary and a drama. The locales are interesting and the photography is quite good, but Pitt's annoying acting brings the movie down. His cocky attitude is too over the top, and this diminishes the gravity of the film.

What more can you ask from a film than to feel totally immersed in a truly remarkable adventure and true life story in a totally unfamiliar landscape and culture. Often written off as long and slow, but to do justice to this incredible and almost unbelievable story, the films pace simply had to match the serene Tibetan culture which is so sadly devastated.

Herkes kendine her kültür kendinde güzeldir müdürüm. Saygılar.

The most under-recognized film ever. This is one of my favorite films of all time, but nobody seems to care. It has an extremely interesting (not to mention fairly true) plot, great acting, and beautiful cinematography and locations. A beautiful and heartbreaking tale of adventure, war, friendship, relationships, patriotism and ex-patriotism, honor and duty, religion, innovation and technology, new vs old world, and the Communist take over of a beautiful culture. This film is so wonderful an

A very intriguing, well done movie. Brad Pitt's character undergoes a subtle transition in the movie while being caught up in the history of Tibet.

We had to watch this in class and all I can remember about the experience is 1) being bored to death and 2) Brad Pitt's horrible fake Austrian accent.

Aka: Seven years in my seat. Big exotic vistas provide a backdrop for a wandering plot occupied by characters who speak in fake accents. Occasional subtitles provide distraction, typical soundtrack provides yawns, and the narration voice over is nauseating. A couple poignant moments linger in the philosophy.

Yeah, Brad's accent is pretty poor and some of the cinematography is a little pedestrian - but the message of the film is great and I'm a sucker for anything about Tibet. Accent aside, the acting is great throughout and Harrer's journey and subsequent transformation is inspiring.

OK, so I'm a "Tibet nut!" I have been ever since I first saw Tibet -- in an early 1960s *Cinerama* theater. I remember enjoying watching it, but details are now faded, like the sound from a spinning prayer wheel.

Yes, that's how long it seemed to me, too. Both Brad Pitt and the Tibetan plateau are strikingly beautiful in this film, but only one of them gets to adopt a wobbly Austrian accent. Some strong sequences, and it's a story worth telling, but it goes on, and on, and on.

The movie spends quite a lot of time speaking about the peaceful lifestyle of the people in Tibet, but I just didn't feel it. You can keep saying that these people are very spiritual, but you also need to show it. The movie blunders with one if its major focuses. It stands its ground as a historical movie, but generally I don't recommend it. You might watch it if you are interested in Brad Pitt, but don't watch it if your interest is spirituality or Buddhism, that's really not here.

Drawn out in the first half, rushed in the second, but the heart of the thing is strong. I only wished that we spent more time with the Tibetan culture itself.

One of those mostly listless, earnest epic-against-the-backdrop-of-turbulent-historical-events pics. Brad Pitt looks great and even has some affecting moments, but he just shouldn't attempt accents. Argentina also looks good as stand-in for Tibet, though not all that much like it. I kept having to remind myself that BD Wong's character was supposed to be male (the hair doesn't help)...I doubt he'll ever get another role as well-suited to his essence as "M. Butterfly".
