Lou Diamond Phillips and Jennifer Tilly star in this atmospheric drama set in the wintry Canadian wilderness. Cast out of his Inuit tribe after clashing with his autocratic father (Toshirô Mifune) and killing a fur trader, young firebrand Agaguk (Phillips) flees with his bride (Tilly) to a frozen wasteland. As they struggle to survive against the elements, polar bears and wolves, a dogged lawman (Donald Sutherland) begins probing the murder.

A pretty trite drama centered around the police investigation of a murder in an Inuit community in the 1930s. Leaving aside the inherent ridiculousness of Lou Diamond Phillips and Toshiro Mifune playing Eskimos, this flick makes out the Inuit to be brutal and ignorant people. There's some unique Arctic landscapes though, and Jennifer Tilly sure looks looks cute in an anorak with her hair crudely chopped off. Plus Mifune jumps out of a plane and TURNS INTO A BIRD.
