Oh shit it's my boy Matthew Libatique. Love his subtle lighting flairs on top of Spike's more organic indie style. Despite the baffling babymaking stuff the first ~45 mins of this have some of the best political filmmaking Spike's done in years and it makes me wish he'd focus in more on the role of POC in capitalism in his work. All in all a surprisingly breezy watch.

Hopefully Spike has shot his sex-manic wad with this one, so we don't have to endure any more of his lesbian orgy fantasies in the future. Next time you get a yen, rent a porno, Spike, or the "she" of the title won't be the only one who hate you.

Viewed February 24, 2022. She Hate Me is a daring film that takes a lot of big swings, starting from a premise that could easily come across as wildly offensive, but Lee finds all sorts of emotional resonance within it — Anthony Mackie’s challenged self-worth, wrestling with his own masculine image; Lee’s trenchant vision of a society that stacks its deck against the other; the vast failings of American healthcare.

A very odd film. Is it trying to be a comedy or a drama? Has some interesting threads about corporate corruption which bookends 2 hours of a needless exploration into... a man impregnating lesbians for money. Not treated with enough humor to be funny, too farcical to be dramatic. Avoids being homophobic but doesn't avoid being boring. Some good scenes but weak characters, plot and again I feel Lee's subplots would have made a stronger film alone. Crosses into male fantasy territory too much.

Spike Lee is apparently completely incapable of any subtlety whatsoever.

Spike Lee's unfairly despised comment on the nature of a person's place in the world could not have been made in any other generation, future or past. It speaks directly to the here and now, touching on the issues of unethical business practices, personal indepence, and as always with Mr. Lee, the role of the modern black man in what is thought of as a predominantly white society. Yes, it's overtly sexual, at times immoral, and at its base confused, but so are the times in which it was mad

This is Fun with Dick and Jane crossed with Good Luck Chuck. Problem is it has neither Fun, nor Luck, nor even Good! But a lot of Dick and no Jane! It sucks!

Lee really dropped the ball on this one. Not even a Tuturro cameo could save this mess.
