It's hard enough being the nerdy new guy on campus without also being the new girl on campus, who has fallen for the coolest guy on campus, who is totally obsessed with the most beautiful girl on campus, who is "crushing" on the nerdy new guy on campus. That's just the beginning in this contemporary comedy inspired by Shakespeare's "Twelfth Night." (DreamWorks)

For those of you who had long awaited the combination of Shakespeare and Amanda Bynes.

Cringe-worthy, but kept me glued like a car crash. Come on, this movie has two of the most calamitous things film-makers have ever tried to capture: soccer, and disguises. All that's missing is an instant messaging scene!

A clumsy but energetic film that refuses to be at all subtle (thanks, Amanda Bynes) but is rather charming for it.

Bynes is kind of hot. Mostly an excuse to capitalize on hot people running around getting into sexy situations. Who can complain?

Somewhat painful at times, but I'm a guy and it's a chick flick. She does a good job of acting like a guy in some parts (mannerisms, et al). But she keeps lapsing into a Southern Drawl and harumphing when attempting to emulate a male voice, which is amusing at best.

I was surprised at how much I didn't hate Amanda Bynes in it. Under no circumstances should you seek it out, but it's better than, say, watching Two and a Half Men for the same length as the running time.

I had fond memories of this movie but it does not hold up at all when I watched it again in 2019. Outdated LGBT views, terrible plot, and Amanda Bynes has to clear her throat every time she speaks in her man voice. Kissing booth is a disgusting idea. Cool to see early Channing Tatum and Amanda Crew. Fav scene: first encounter with the principal who is Dr. Funke playing a similar character to the Dean from Community.

Light hearted and good natured time-killer, with Bynes becoming more charming and endearing as the film progresses, though some occasionally over-stated, “child-star” readings could have been reconsidered, and Tatum more than capable of adding some extra oomph to a fairly bland role. Blessedly spares us a MRS DOUBTFIRE farcical change back-and-forth-and-back-and-forth; well chosen supporting players (especially Cross and Hagerty) bring more to the film than strictly required.

Adding to the fact that Amanda Bynes can be impressively annoying is a horribly managed screenplay and a direction that makes the film feel like 6 long suffering hours out of 90 minutes.

Surprisingly this movie can stand on its own. It isn't great, and it isn't groundbreaking, but it isn't unbearable either. It delivers a few laughs and a little bit of charm. No need to rush this to the top of your netflix queue

Is it necessary to point out that this film is inspired by a Shakespeare play? Why give people more excuses to ignore Shakespeare?

Gros Fake honteux !

Shakespeare's crossdressing comedies were contrived even in Elizabethan times, and they don't do any better here. This is cinema at its most boring, bland, crude, and lacking in introspection. It's a mystery to me what joys anyone may derive from the film.

The plot was idiotic and so unrealistic that there's no point in pointing it out. There could have been an opportunity to break out of the white-heterosexual-basic-romantic-comedy-pattern but it was not grasped. But damn, Amanda Bynes acting like a dude (a black dude I might add) was freaking hilarious. I laughed so much..

Possibly the most compelling element of this film is that it's a loose adaptation of a Shakespeare play - a play I know nothing about, but still. Most people that see this...won't actually know that about the movie because it doesn't make it clear or have Shakespearean dialogue. As a movie on its own, it's decent enough. A classic in a sense, but definitely of its era.

At first it seemed to be kinda funny and actually quite entertaining, but it all went downhill near the end with how excruciatingly transphobic and homophobic it became. They literally made her wear a fucking dress at the end when she hated dresses the entire film. Fuck this tbh.
