Anno revisits the theme he's mastered of running away from reality, and does it in a beautiful way with poignant dialogue. Some of the best shots and most clever set designs I've seen are in this film. Criminally overlooked and a must watch for fans of Evangelion.

Wait the dude who directed Lily Chou Chou was the lead in this? That... makes a lot of sense actually, a similar melancholy aesthetic runs through both films.

Great meta commentary on film and escapism. Visually stunning and some wacky but effective camera angles.

A slightly surrealist post-modern tale of melancholy and loneliness. The images are stunning and the actors great. There could have been some more "action", I think, since it's pretty repetitive (and it wants to be exactly that), but all in all I really love it.
