Lone group of teens, led by recently released joyrider and his disenchanted Belfast girlfriend, strives to leave their mark on "a British city in the near future" while attempting to avoid a rival gang. Scenes of joyriding and ram-raiding, which attempt to portray the addictiveness of fast driving whilst also showing the downside (the effect on the community and ultimately death) (imdb)

This catalogue of pre-prominence English character actors is a stylish '90s-a-thon of punks and carjackers in what's seemingly supposed to be a dystopian future, though some social clues imply that it's an alternative version of the present. Basically little more than a downcast pageant of brooding and outlaw subsistence in a post-industrial wilderness, cherry-picking from Blade Runner and Gotham City, scattered with some well-staged car chases and demolition.

A fascinating snapshot of a culture that few movies include, the problem is that this movie really isn't that interesting and was put together pretty badly at times. It almost seems as if the whole movie is a vehicle for Orbital's song "Halcyon On and On" which it only utilizes the first minute or so--and the song is nine minutes long.

This film was good in its time but it hasn't aged well. In its time this was proberly one of Paul W S Anderson's better films and his debut as a director. It does have a strong english cast and and a good soundtrack it is just a shame that you find yourself not really what happens to you main characters in the end

A Porsche on fire as the decay of capitalism. PWSA's debut presents a quasi-distopic urban England where gangs of joyriders steal nice cars and crash the vehicles on stores. Tommy takes it seriously, Jo and Billy want to have fun. Anderson shows his obsession with spatial clarity filled with smoke, rain, geometrical shots and a city of urban ruins and trash. It runs a bit clunky, but builds a world of subversive images -- police cars being destructed, a mannequin facing Billy in the last shot.
