Holy saccharine, Number Five! This movie is so '80s it craps Reagan campaign posters.

Now I've seen Steve Guttenberg out acted by Bobcat Goldthwait, Ted Danson, Paul Reiser, an entire cast of geriatrics AND a robot.

A heartwarming and semi-classic 80's movie. This film, sadly, will probably be forgotten. More parents should show it to their kids. Really good!

I remember this movie being unbelievably awesome a decade ago. And you know what? I'm gonna go ahead and call predating Wall-E's design by 20 years influential. Yes that's right. This movie is influential.

Imagine one of the robots from _Star Wars_ -- only more cloying -- inserted in the storyline from _E.T._ -- only more crass -- and you will have an idea what to expect. But too "good" an idea. You should be warned, particularly, of the Mr. Malaprop of Asian Indian descent: "Maybe you've created another Frankenfurter's monster," etc.

Charming and somewhat witty, this is a great 80s family movie that kids can still enjoy today. Number 5 is a loveable character that predates the similar Wall-E.

I love this movie, there are few movies that are made for audiences of all types, I think this is one of them. This movie is cute for kids, great for nerds, and hilarious for the comedy lovers.

Ugly and unappealing sci-fi comedy has a decent premise (the opening mocking the apocalyptic setting of THE TERMINATOR is the high point), but runs down quickly once Guttenberg, Sheedy and the sleazy, creepy No.5 take centre stage – why the movie squanders the more interesting Pendleton and Bailey for the other two non-starters is a puzzle, but neither Guttenberg nor Sheedy are given much to play with; Stevens’ one-joke malapropic sidekick strays dangerously close to the offensive.

I watched this on VHS dozens of times as a kid, and did not realize that guy was in brownface. Really too bad, because it made what could have been a classic family movie unwatchable. No way I'm showing this to my daughter.

Johnny Five is still alive, in my heart! I love this film. I probably watched this a hundred times when I was younger, and it's still very good even today. This heartwarming tale of a robot who becomes alive will have you laughing throughout the whole film. Ally Sheedy is incredibly cute (and obsessed with animals) and she really adds a lot to the movie...

watched this recently and got some weird sexual vibes from Johnny 5 and ally sheedy. anaylizing further the message is that we must respect womankind because it would take just one nefarious johnny 5 clone to swoop in like nothing and woo a human mate. he has nothing to do but learn information. that in itself is impressive but, oh wait, he's got that sense of humor that, while maybe borrowed, means something. but he's friends with a white dude who dresses in blackface. fuck you johnny 5.

Another wannabe _E.T._. "Hey, laser lips, your momma was a snowblower" is quite possibly the lamest insult in the history of motion pictures. I actually saw this in the theatre when I was a kid, so I can vouch for the fact that it actually received laughs, too. Only time I ever made fun of the audience during a movie

Pleasant _E.T._ wannabe. Totally formula-bound but still very entertaining and popular enough to spawn a mostly needless sequel. Is it my imagination or did Guttenberg float through the entire decade of the 1980s playing the same character in film after film?
