One of Kieslowski's documentary shorts, a behind-the-scenes look at a ballet school/studio. As I've said before, I don't have much interest in ballet, and this film illustrates the main reason why. The dance is less about creativity and more about mathematical precision, sticking to a strict blueprint made up of a small handful of officially sanctioned moves and positions. However, it is an interesting look at the punishing routine these women go through, but obviously finding rewards in it.

An engaging and occasionally beautiful portrait of seven women somehow connected with ballet. Kieslowski follows them in their work (or practice, or even waiting to work) for two or three minutes of film, per person. In doing so, one gets a sense of the full range of what's involved in ballet behind the performances. And though one gets a sense of these seven people, the film's brevity makes it difficult to think of each of these women as individuals with unique personalities and desires.
