Chris (Steve Oram) wants to show Tina (Alice Lowe) his world and he wants to do it his way - on a journey through this sceptred isle in his beloved Abbey Oxford Caravan. Tina's led a sheltered life and there are things that Chris needs her to see - the Crich Tramway Museum, the Ribblehead Viaduct, the Keswick Pencil Museum and the rolling countryside that separates these wonders in his life. But it doesn't take long for the dream to fade. (mubi.com)

Despite combining two of mankinds most heinous crimes; serial killing and the caravaning holiday, "Sightseers" is a darkly hilarious treat from start to finish. It's one thing for a film to be funny and violent, many are, but to combine it with genuinely interesting characters and a brilliantly subversive script is quite another. This is beautifully shot too, with loads of great camera scopes of The Black Country, Midlands and The North. Has a great final scene thrown in as well.

Wheatley builds a ride through rural areas of England only to show us how human history is made of blood -- in its most senseless, practical way. But he does it in a both unexpected and poignant style, narrating a serial killer romcom led by a horny couple that, after accidentally killing a man in the first day of their trip, starts murdering people to prove nonsense points and, of course, their love. Violence means nothing -- just gore. And love is a farce -- like Tina, enjoy it, don't jump.

A take on Badlands that -- befitting its clear-eyed understanding of its characters as middle-aged schlubs inarticulate to the extent that they can only express themselves via acts of explosive violence -- jettisons that film's lyricism in favor of a droll matter-of-factness. A satire of the norms of civility as constituted through a generalized web of social violence, and of the grotesque rationalizations we make for our own actions in defense of our social expectations and notions of self.

As if someone had filtered "Natural Born Killers" thrugh a Kinks song. Cheerfully grim. Unfortunately runs out of steam a bit towards the end, but still a fun way to spend 88 minutes.

What I learned from this movie: camping in Britain involves driving around moors in a faux-fir furnished recreational vehicle (ahem, "caravan"), suffering the eventide incantations of begrimed Wiccans, and purchasing jumbo novelty pencils for less than it costs to ship a box of turkey jerky from Omaha to Tokyo (plus tax).

A bizarre, unsettling blend of caravanning and Natural Born Killers. Wheatley does make interesting films.

The UK camping scene is just ripe for satire, and Wheatley has a great time poking fun at the petty neuroses, class struggles and eccentricities of little Englanders. As ever, he keeps you unsettled with elements of real horror mixed in with the kitchen sink realism and black comedy (and this is often very funny) - Lowe's dead eyes linger in the mind.

This is what happens when a Briton asks himself "What if Natural Born Killers was a British movie?". Black humor isn't an exclusively British thing, but this particular shade of black is. I probably won't remember much of this film except how twisted funny and occasionally gory it is.

Brutally funny, whether it's the far too true-to-life satire of caravaning holidays, the amusing dialogue from the startingly (considering the circumstances) naturally-written characters, or the perfectly-paced violence and horror elements. Perfect final scene.

I think Ben Wheatley is one of the most exciting English directors working today and this is perhaps the most English film he could ever make. It sort of captures a whole culture perfectly, but all the comedy comes from the two leads, who as characters are complex, sympathetic and repulsive in equal measure. Oram and Lowe obviously carry the film but they're supported by a wonderful soundtrack, some very nice cinematography and lots of little moments along the way. Badlands in a caravan.

Some pretty good jokes in this movie that is itself one big pretty good joke. That's a real compliment, barely backhanded. There are worse things to aspire to. Like some movies Wheatley hadn't made yet.

A crass film that lacks the necessary style to justify the gratuitous violence (because, to be clear, gratuitous violence can be a good thing but not when done in this way.) Not nearly as clever as it thinks it is, indeed it just comes across as smug. All the characters are loathsome, but again not in a good way (they just make you want to stop watching the film altogether). I particularly dislike this type of British dark comedy (I'm not an Edgar Wright fan).

Darkly funny murder spree which could hardly be presented in a more British or low-key manner. The story could be seen as a bit thin, but fortunately the film is short. Rather than overwhelming with characters, locations and ideas, this film just sticks to one thing and does it quite well. Good realistic performances.

Depressing in a way. An unstable, dangerous, psychopathic and slightly dumb newly met couple go on a road trip holiday to discover themselves, discover each other, pass some time and have fun. I am not sure what to make of this movie. A different experience. Great visuals. Yes, some of them are grotesque actually. Dark comedy haan? Well let's just move on. Caution: Never run into such people.

Psycho boy and weird girl meet, fall in love, and go on a road trip killing-spree together. Sound familiar? It feels familiar, and certainly in the first half the mixture of seen-it-all-before and lack of laughs had me cursing my decision to press play. But once the murders pick up pace so does the story, you begin to feel some affection for the two, and don't regret the ride you've taken. Still, if you have to watch one odd-couple comedy set in the beauty of northern England, watch The Trip.

some good moments, but not at hint of realistic character development. not sure if the people who made this intended it to be this way, but the pretended artsyness made it straining to watch and kind of dull.. still not that bad, quite entertaining sometimes, but the trailers and description presented the film differently.

Darkly hilarious but also surprisingly moving. Not for the faint of heart and/or the biggest animal lovers. Great 80's soundtrack and beautiful cinematography which captures the roads less travelled - atleast by those outside UK. Some of the themes do feel a bit underdeveloped as if the film was put together in a hurry.

Wow does Ben Wheatley have a voice. This black as night comedy is both laugh out loud funny and very disturbing. The two leads are phenomenal and play off of each others oddities brilliantly. Certainly an interesting depiction of two people you probably don't want to vacation with.

Seen: 2. I really disliked the vibe of this movie the first time. And it is still a demented, deplorable piece of work the second time. But I found myself enjoying the odd tone and the humorous details. And the ending had me laughing too. I still don't like this movie overall, but I respect it. And I can't recommend this at all, unless you like some of Wheatley's others.

Sightseers is a quintessentially English dark-comedy. The awkward characters, a bleak outlook, a peppering of social dissatisfaction, & grim weather on a caravan holiday...oh, plus several murders that evoke as much of a response as leaving the toilet seat up. Chris & Tina's relationship plays out at a hyper-realistic pace, going out with a fitting whimper rather than a Hollywood bang. The soundtrack works well & as does the feel of the entire film. Worth a watch once, but not quite a classic.

It's so unfortunate that I found this film to be so cold and so forgettable, given I'm a Wheatley fan. This is a misfire from him, a film that gives off a rough, off, misanthropic and ugly vibe, right up to the very last second -- this is all done for the film's sake, and not to actually say anything. I remember Mark Kermode (who liked this) recommended the Mike Leigh TV-movie Nuts in May alongside it, which is a far better dark comedy.

A little bit of a mixed bag for me. On the other hand I loved the dark comedy a lot, it's my jam. I like twisted characters that have sides to them, not just the pure evil or good -kind. Then again, the way the characters acted so randomly required some suspension of disbelief. So while I kind of got why the characters acted the way they did, it also seemed just a little bit too out of thore, too abrupt some. Still, it was an entertaining thing, funny and bloody at times.
