The title is in reference not to the actual silver bullet that is used to kill the werewolf but rather to the Coors Light cans that alcoholic uncle Gary Busey drinks. Except he doesn't. What a wasted reference. I liked this way more than I remembered. It's pretty clever and some of the characters seem like real people. I love the eye injury search and reveal. If Ginger Snaps taught me anything, that reverend is going to be cranky or bloated or something.

It's a fun children's film with a few scary moments. If I were 13 I would probably really enjoy this, but as an adult a lot of it comes off sappy and unoriginal. Even so it's not bad.

Stephen King does Werewolves. You know. Kids. Magic. A drunk Gary Busey.

Revolutionary in that it will be the first, and most likely last time we'll ever see a werewolf bludgeon a man with a baseball bat.

How come this movie did a better job showing a town consumed by supernatural evil in 90 mins than Salem's Lot could in 3 hours?! The siblings were good characters, that wheelchair was awesome, Busey's role was far better than I imagined, and the werewolf, while often out of focus, is still effective. Maybe a bit too campy and cliched at times, (and none of those extras should be necessarily proud of their acting) but for a simple werewolf story, this one's plenty of fun.

Would trade my uncles in for an alcoholic with a heart of gold Gary Busey uncle. The song over the end credits, yeeesh.

Another King book gone mostly wrong. Something slightly endearing about it though.

The title refers to a scooterized wheelchair for a crippled young boy, besides, of course, the standard method of stopping werewolves. In the broader application, it refers to a typical King tossed salad: hand-me-down horror mythology, corny Americana, redneck local color, dumb jokes, children and their imagination, adults and their lack of it. Oh, and a lot of blood as dressing.

One of the better Stephen King film adaptations and Corey Haim's only good film besides Dream a Little Dream and License to Drive.

It is what it is. A mid-80's King flick isn't going to be the next American Werewolf in London but I guess I am a little disappointed that there really was no nuance to this. It goes exactly like you think it will. Disappointing, but not horrible.

I have a drunk uncle. He is pretty fun. However, he's not Gary Busey fun. Werewolf transformations are the greatest thing about cinema, and this film decides to go for it. Unfortunately, never lives up to its opening scene you see a man get decapitated.

Minus the lack of distinctly New England-flavor, it does nail the tone of an early-80's Stephen King novel fairly accurately. Which is good, if you like his compelling addiction-inspired brand of pessimism. Bad, if you don't like blatant pandering to white Middle America, or REALLY forced-sounding parochial dialog that only works in print. The special effects are bad, and most of the acting is shit. Gary Busey is really good, and the Reverend character is much better than the one in the book.

Has the kind of cheap, cheesy feel that a lot of King movies had back in the day but a few kind of fun characters and spooky situations.

Campy as it is in parts, this is one of the better werewolf movies out there & is among the better screenplays Stephen King wrote- he'd pen Maximum Overdrive just one year later, which stands as one of the worst screenplays perhaps of all time. Solid performances from Busey, Haim, & Follows combine with a fun spin on werewolf lore & a steady-moving pace to make for an all-around good time. The motivations & mindset of our hairy baddie are quite chilling, too. Give this one a look.

Full-on 80s coming-of-age (ish) corn-fest with wistful, small-town Stand By Me vibes, overdub narration, motor-powered wheelchairs and... a werewolf. Screenplay by Stephen King, no less. Yes, Silver Bullet does have a double meaning as the film's title, but it does not really have much in the way of subtext. Nonetheless, I loved it. It's an entertaining, heart-packed ride with likeable characters, grim kills, fun practical effects and two kick-ass transformation sequences.

Viewed September 18, 2021. It sounds like a total disaster on paper, and it's further dragged down by the terrible creature design for the werewolf, but somehow all of the elements just fit - despite the superficial sloppiness, there's a drive and intensity and classic Stephen King wackiness to it that I found to be a lot of fun. Daniel Attias' low-budget Spielberg look is surprisingly dynamic, and Busey is fully committed and hilarious throughout.

Corey Haim's angelic face couldn't save the film from sure oblivion. Some old movies last a lifetime. This one won't last a day in a moviehouse, since it's more suited for vintage TV programs. MY SCORING: 99-96=Great; 95-90=Very good; 89-85=Good; 84-80=So-so; 79-70=Boring; Below 70=Forget it

This probably runs about a half hour too long, but it's your solid Stephen King fare: good characters matched with hilariously tropey characters and a fine melding of horror atmosphere and silliness. Is it the best werewolf movie? No. Is it scary? Not once. Is it entertaining? Yeah, it's a fun way to fill some time.

The main problem of this film is the werewolf costume looks really cheesy most of the time. The cast does a good job here. There are some interesting and exciting scenes. Overall I would recommend this one to werewolf fans only.
