Totally fascinating and often hilarious, this crowd-pleasing film follows tough-minded state prosecutor Vera Ngassa and court president Beatrice Ntuba as they help women in their Cameroon village fight difficult cases of abuse. With fierce compassion, they dispense wisdom and wisecracks in fair measure. (Women Make Movies)

You wouldn't think a film about women and children being beaten and raped would be uplifting and joyful, but I swear it mostly is. Through these two women we see cases of girls and women abused in various ways and coming to the system for help, and the small successes of a system and the slow march of progress and hope. I'm sure for every good outcome we see here there are dozens of cases that go unreported or where the accused goes free but the reminder of hope for a future is powerful.

"A film with inadequate research but one that makes a ferocious case capped with a hopeful closing statement." - Ed Gonzalez
