Labeling this as outdated doesn't begin to cover how hopeless this movie is by today's standards. Even taking its age and the fact that it's a family film into account, this had no business winning an Oscar for Best Direction. A gruelling watch.

Norman Taurog received the Oscar for Best Director for this one and it was nominated for Best Picture, Best Actor (9 year old jackie Cooper) and Best Writing, Adaptation. It's a cute movie. Kids in the lead with Our Gang's Jackie Cooper as Skippy, and Robert Coogan almost dressed up as his older brother Jackie looked in Chaplin's The Kid (1921). Might not be Oscar worthy, but it's one of the better family feel good movies of the year when so many scandalous pre-code movies came out of Hollywood.
