Awesomely shot. Craig, who has grown comfortably into the role, also impressed me, and he's supported by strong players. The Bond girls fail to deliver, though. They, like burnt-out staples such as gadgets and lame jokes, are however no longer in focus. Rather than another mere reboot, 'Skyfall', my second-favorite of the bunch (after 'Dr. No'), actually feels more like a change of operating system. Fifty years on, the selling point is, for the first time, something as exotic as character drama.

Incredibly entertaining, action is top-notch and perhaps the best Bond opening sequence of all time. A bit more mature and darker than the other instalments. When put to paper the plot feels a bit weak but this didn't bother me during the viewing of this film, felt the film was a great experience.

The last 7-8 Bond movies have all tried to deconstruct him, prove him irrelevant or gloriusly have him leap around current trends, only to sort of prove that he was limping behind him. There is a lot you can't do in a Bond movie, so imagine my surprise when Mendes of all people find something that we didn't even know could be done: Making a Bond movie that was really about Bond, and with a final showdown thats pretty tense and un-lampoonable ... by Bond-standards, at least. Also: Roger Deakins!

Solid movie with focus on Bond and M's status as obsolete relics from the cold war. Great performance from Bardem and a little nod to the fans of the good old days.

Is this the best Bond movie ever? It's certainly in the conversation. Genuinely thrilling, moving, intelligent, and atmospheric, while giving us new insights into the ever-more complex world and fractured psyche of the world's most venerable secret agent. Great theme song, too.

On paper it reads like a Dark Knight clone; with a Joker style villain, an Alfred Pennyworth old man sidekick, and an orphan hero. But it excels in execution as a compelling drama by deconstructing James Bond's psychology to show why he's a Lawful Neutral government killer yearning for approval. The fanboy fun also fits: with two great chases and a tense final shootout. And cinematically it's never slow, is beautifully photographed by Deakins, and has Adele sing the best 007 theme ever. Awesome.

SPOILERS: An ex-agent comes after M and MI6 can't protect her because of some ridiculous pseudo-technological wizardry so 007 has to last-stand it at his parent's ranch with a single rifle and some home-made explosives? Are you fucking kidding me?! This is one of most idiotic, nonsensical plots in the last several years. I mean, the antagonist threw a train at Bond using his cell phone for fuck's sake! Give me a break. At least GoldenEye had a world-threatening scheme to help it along. Pathetic.

Sadly, Skyfall falls short of its immense hype. Some things are done beautifully, others not so much. Deakins' cinematography is brilliant, Bardem is menacing, Mendes is quite on top of his game and Craig more or less delivers. The script, story and too many borrowed elements from other films make this film impress less than I expected. Better than QoS, yet doesn't reach the level of Casino Royale. Skyfall misses the 'soul' of Bond. Next up: Nolan? If you please.

And the script/story were so simple..it started off so good but all went downhill from there.. so many things just left unexplained... i felt a bit robbed

The entire cast and crew brought their A-game, which elevates this to the same high level achieved by Casino Royale. Notable standouts include Judi Dench with a powerful portrayal of M, Javier Bardem, whose memorable villain comes off as something like the lovechild of Hannibal Lecter and Hans Gruber, and Roger Deakins, who makes Bond look better than ever.

It cleverly embraces new and old alike, by tying Craig's Bond to traditional roots planted in Casino Royale, but also by subverting the audience's expectations on age, gender, and sexuality in Bond characters. While the action sequences and godlike-hacking plot points require a huge suspension of disbelief, it still manages to be an incredible thrill ride from start to finish.

Ehh. The weak, uninspired plotting is what kills it early on, and it strives mightily to recover but never quite manages. Some great scenes and setpieces here and there, but the cliches manage to outweigh the coolness for most of its running time, and the frigging climax plays like HOME ALONE. The reappearance of the Aston Martin was cool, and it'd be kinda nice if Dench got an Oscar nomination, but otherwise kinda bloated and not exactly rewatchable.

Whatever admitted messiness may be present in its plotting, Skyfall represents a triumph in acting, characterization, theme, pacing, big-screen action, and a huge, huge triumph in cinematography. If Deakins isn't nominated for an Oscar for the decadently beautiful Shanghai tower scene alone, it will represent the worst kind of anti-genre snobbery. As a long-time Bond aficionado, I also enjoyed the full-circle final scene very much. (Ytadel's series ranking: #11 of 24)

It feels as if Mendes is trying too hard to do classic Bond. There's all the nods with the classic car, the orient, the silhouette fight scenes, etc.. With all that there's a palpable sense of dilution in becoming a franchise director. Mendes would have been better off making it his own done in his unique creative vision, fan service be damned. Craig is Craig and Javier Bardem turns in another creepy performance worthy of the top Bond villains. We get too few Craig/Bardem scenes together.

Movie is great. Bardem is great. Here is my qualm: Adele. Why can't she sing the third line of a refrain like a normal person? It's like she forgets that she has a beautiful voice and goes an octave higher than necessary. It's jarring. It doesn't work here, and it really doesn't work in Someone Like You.

This part of the installment is definitely better than Quantum. The plot isn't overwhelming in any way, and surely not complex enough to fill almost two and a half hours, there were some lengthy parts. However, I feel like Skyfall connects the Craig movies nicely to the 007 series. And I loved how the intro reflected the movie (and the theme is awesome!). Not to forget that brilliant performance Bardem gives!

Easily one of the best Bond movies. A more reserved, understated take that felt less like a typical Bond and more like a mature, spy thriller. It's not perfect. The plot is too derivative while strangely lacking in emotional weight and suspense. It's reminiscent to the way I felt with the Dark Knight Rises in that I understood what the movie strives for but it falls a bit flat. Perhaps they both overreached trying to hit too many plot/thematic points.

It's a bit of a letdown really. But my high expectations is partly to blame. It's actually quite good with exquisite visuals (thanks to Deakins) and a strong and nicely balanced traditional vs. modern thematic element. Craig remains impeccably suited to the role and Bardem proves a great villainous match. Still, Skyfall lacks the freshness, the exhilarating action sequences, and the strong emotional pull that made Casino Royale a cut above the rest.

The issue of Bond's fallibility this time around could have been constructed better, but it certainly was a welcome change, and an amazing final showdown featuring teamwork, of all things-with two elderly people yet-adds further freshness. Also praiseworthy is the sinister score and opening credits, Bardem's uniquely creepy baddie, and the beautiful cinematography (the scenes at Skyfall are especially gorgeous). The politics-turned-personal centered on M provides a nice underlying plot too.

"Modern" without just imitating Bourne, and respectful of its past without just imitating Goldfinger, Skyfall strikes a great balance between its many elements to provide a more character-driven Bond story. On the action front each major set piece is expertly staged and memorable, all shot expertly by Roger Deakins, of course. Craig certainly feels at home as Bond, Dench is wonderful, and Bardem can play a villain (but we already knew that). One of the best Bonds so far.

The best Bond film ever! A brilliant, surrealistic Jungian fever dream in which the archetypal Self (Bond), in order to be reborn after being "killed" by his Anima (Moneypenny), and in order to heal his psychological scars, must return to the mist-shrouded archetypal womb (Skyfall, "Skyfall is where we start") and battle his archetypal Shadow (Silva) with the help of the archetypal mother (M, "Mommy was very bad") and the archetypal father (Kincade, the gameskeeper).

Perhaps the best Bond in the series' 50-year history, this one concludes the prequel trilogy that Craig started with Casino Royale, now he's set up to return to his roots in the next installment. This one felt both contemporary and traditional all in one, and everything about it was orchestrated to perfection. The series couldn't sustain off only films like this, but installments like these are what keep it alive. Do not miss this one.

Skyfall is a fitting release to celebrate 50 years of 007 and it's one of the best instalments to date. Sam Mendes adds touches of class that call back to the Bond films of old & Daniel Craig has truly made the character his own and takes the role to new depths. Whilst Judi Dench, Naomi Harris, Raplh Fiennes & Javier Bardem make-up a stellar suporting cast. Skyfall is everything you could want from a James Bond film and the overall sense of nostalgia and Britishness is incredibly satisfying.

Skyfall sets out to ask whether a Cold War-era spy agency has any real relevance in the modern world, and it does so beautifully. It's very much a look at the past of James Bond, both as a person and as a series, paying tribute to the past without feeling like it's pandering to the audience, including the appearance of a classic tricked-out DBS. Judi Dench's wonderful performance is a fitting sendoff for M, and indeed, her career, while Javier Bardem plays a wonderfully flamboyant villain.

Cool thing I caught: Silva was imitating Bond villains rather than being one himself (his schemes were pretty dead end, flat imitations of Brosnan-era villainy) in order to get attention from his "mother." The one-sided sibling rivalry was also interesting. I mean, strictly psych 101 stuff, but it was kind of cool to see it in a Bond film. Also like how it looped back to the Connery era.

This was nearly a perfect film. I had no idea Roger Deakins was the cinematographer until those great opening credits, and boy does it show. The fight in Shanghai, with the only light source being a moving billboard, is worth the price of admission alone - especially in iMAX. What performances all around - especially Bardem as Silva the former MI6 operative betrayed and wanting revenge. There's so much more I could get into, but don't wanna spoil. I can't wait to watch this again.

'Skyfall' feels like a modern Bond, though not due to the new "dark" attitude. 'Skyfall' is modern because, like most movies and television today, it is self-aware. Though I find it annoying in other films, I can accept it for Bond's 50th Anniversary film. To enjoy this movie, you have to know the history of Bond. There are lots of nods and winks in, what would otherwise be, a regular Bond film. This feels like the true beginning to the new Bond era, honoring the past before blowing it away.

It's no stretch of the imagination to call this the best-made Bond film of all time, as the franchise has never seen this kind of talent behind the camera before. And more than anything, that might be the biggest takeaway of Skyfall for this franchise: A-list talents who grew up with the series want to work on it. Deakins' cinematography is simply stunning. Whatever threads the story might drop, this one's as tense as they come. Great performances, too. Easily the best Bond film of my lifetime.

Skyfall is a fully accomplished film not of espionage, but about espionage -- or even about espionage films --, that finally makes this franchise with Daniel Craig big and connected to our times. It's as muscular as antiquate, classy as rough: a Bond movie that starts like any other -- with expensive locations and unbelievable women --, but that, when Bardem appears on screen, becomes a bright and overwhelming picture about the very future of the character. Quite impressive.

Probably the most "art" I've seen in a Bond film: the locales are gorgeously rendered, the female characters are given balance by making the film's sex self-conscious or nonexistent, and Bond's central dilemma of Age is a direct violation of blockbuster code of ethics, appearing to tell us in very Batman tones that heroism is anything but self-sustainable. (The ghost of Nolan is all over this one.) Bardem's villain is hokey madness, but luckily the acting takes away any residual bad taste.

I think I prefer Casino Royale's more streamlined purity, but Skyfall isn't far behind, and if it's slightly less elegant it's also more interesting to chew on after the fact. It's a film obsessed with what it means to be Bond, and with death, two things that pretty much go hand-in-hand (though the connection is rarely drawn so explicitly). It's also just damn fine entertainment, with killer action set-pieces, a great villain courtesy Bardem, and eye-popping cinematography from Roger Deakins.

Mendes blurs the line between action film in art film, in this fantastically acted, wonderfully shot entry into the 50 y.o. series. Javier Bardem is another memorable villain, but Judi Dench is the main player here that creates layers of emotion in what one expects to be standard popcorn fare. It isn't. This is great cinema that can be enjoyed by everyone.

Honestly... what?! The screenplay is painful; mostly consisting of four word sentences allowing characters to tell you exactly what is happening, they're doing, or is supposed to be happening. There is not one thing new here, not one action sequence, concept or scene of any originality or note. Everything here has been seen before. It's could be interchanged for any other Bond/action movie, but Bonds got stubble, so its gritty & real ... yeah? Fuck, I could go on... 2 & half hours... Christ.

I think the hype inflated my expectations past the point of no return, and my experience with Skyfall was worsened as a result. The opening sequences are really well done, but then it seems to meander around with no driving force until Bardem's character is introduced; Bardem is spectacular. While the classic Bond throwbacks were good, I can't help but feel a bit cheated by them, as they provide glimpses of a universe which is no longer on offer. Bond is back in style. This newest entry has a phenomonal blend of action and character in this movie. Not so actiony, that the characters are stagnant, but not so character based as to be preachy. The dramatic back-stories between the characters are half-assed as well. The film does look like a million bucks, though (terrific cinematography). (psi:69)

Compared to the first two Daniel Craig Bond movies, it's much closer to the Bond formula that I actually slightly enjoy. It's still a really silly movie if you take a moment to think about any character's motivations. Some cool moments throughout, but not enough to save it from feeling dreadfully boring to me overall. Too long, too self-important, and too dour. The action is fine (at least you can tell what's happening), the performances are solid, and the Deakins cinematography is striking, but despite its self-proclaimed gravitas, it all feels a bit unremarkable. There's certainly nothing in here as exciting as the opening chase from Casino Royale. And of course, nothing in this film makes any sense when you stop to think about it - and with a nearly 2.5 hour runtime, there's a lot of time for thinking.

The 1st Bond film in decades 2 merit its praise. First off it's the most beautiful-looking Bond film ever & brimming w/ great actors. Although Bardem constantly straddles the line between great villain & being simply weird-4-weird's sake, his final act makes him uniquely memorable. The Bond series is an out of date concept and admitting this and building a movie around this admission would not save it. It had visually appealing sequences, but the script was so overwritten, it was hard to enjoy the beautiful scenes. The final Home Alone bit and Bardem's Joker-wannabe characters were the most annoying parts. Also, that initial Istanbul part was one of the most unauthentic "authentic place" starts; how did they manage that by shooting in location, I don't know.

Meta analysis would later reveal the studio took critical analysis of Quantum of Solace to heart thus then giving a subtle nod to the audience that they truly care about how we feel about the franchise. Skyfall is not perfect, but it is the best James Bond movie I have ever seen and likely the best one ever made. It is good enough to even transcend the baggage of being a part of a 50-year franchise and stand on its own as a great movie experience. It's greatest strength is looking at its hero with a fresh perspective and trying to piece together where a man like this would come from. Javier Bardem plays a great villain here, but he is underused and the end is anticlimactic.

Horrendous. Shoddy mashup of moments lifted unaltered from Mission Impossible, Sneakers, V for Vendetta, Home Alone... Literally not a moment in the film that credulity isn't stretched to breaking - so much so that it bears repeating. There was not one on-screen detail that didn't have the viewer's mind complaining "but.. it wouldn't happen that way." Add the homophobia and return of gender roles (and reducing Dench's brass-balled M to a damsel in distress) for bad measure.

The exceptional reception seems to me to be result of the time it was released in than timeless film quality

Had an amazing and unique first 2/3, but the final act was pretty run of the mill.

There's really nothing wrong here, I don't care what anyone says. Everyone is in top form and firing on all cylinders.

For first half of the film nothing interesting happens. Then Bardem shows up, but it's too late to save the film.

The first of Craig's Bond movies breathed a tremendous amount of life back into the Bond movies which had been fumbled and mishandled for the past twenty five years. The subsequent bond movie made me wonder if "Casino Royale" was a fluke and Bond was, indeed, dead. "Skyfall" serves as a resurgence to my steadfast belief that Craig is the best possible pick for Bond, and Bardem's Silva is the best bond villain since Scaramanga.

Decent action sequences during the opening and closing half hours. Other than that 'Skyfall' is disappointing. Bond films are ridiculous, and we all know it, so why bother trying to make them into gritty, realistic thrillers.

Best James Bond movie in years? I don't know about that, and I've seen every one of them. It's certainly good, and definitely way better than the bleak and disappointing "Quantum of Solace." But I still think that "Casino Royale" was better. At the same time, this does give "Casino Royale" a strong run for its money, and it's good to see them bring back secondary characters like Q. Definitely worth it.

Best Craig Bond yet. The turn to "realism" finally gets to flourish by developing Bond, M and the excellent Javier Bardem villain as characters with some actual depth to them. Pair that up with some epic (and thankfully not frequent) action sequences, great style and this is a real winner. I'm looking forward to the next one.

Mendes works wonders with the camera. The action sequences and the meeting with Silva are wonderful. The plot is a little thin, but it's a Bond film; so that expectation is a little thin itself. However, I love the more political nature of Skyfall and hope they continue down this route in upcoming films. The Craig Bond films are not as exuberant and showy as previous iterations of the series. I understand how fans have been taken aback as a result, but it is still enjoyable satisfying fun.

Sam Mendes reignites a fire for 007 after the lackluster previous entry. Surprisingly, 'Skyfall' is a much more personal and contained film for the character that examines Bond's self-perception, his haunted past, and the agency's shortcomings. Think 'The Dark Knight' evolving into a gritty update of 'Home Alone' and you have an idea of what this Bond entry is all about. It is visually sensational and superbly acted, but I'm still waiting for the super spy to have some fun.

The first act is goddamn excellent. And the cinematography is absolutely perfect throughout. But it quickly went downhill after that fantastic rooftop fight, with lengthy meaningless dialogue sections, a nothing villain (however well-acted), and a horrifically poor third act that does everything in its power to shoehorn an origin in when it's James Bond and that COULD NOT BE LESS NECESSARY and then goes on for-fucking-ever. Why are you even HERE, Albert Finney? Go HOME, Albert Finney.

A Bond film that looks great, feels great, and is great. After rewatching the entire series prior to this film, the reveal of Moneypenny had me hooting in my living room.

I'm so glad this was the last Bond film for Judi Dench. I couldn't stand her - she detracted from every Bond film she appeared in. Skyfall was not up to the gold standard set by Casino Royale, a masterpiece, but it had some moments. The new Q did a great job, I thought and a sly inside joke reference to the Desmond Llewelyn Q was a nice touch.

I've made a conscious effort to avoid all the Craig bonds, I've never quite accepted the modern direction (or Craig) but I can now say my faith in the franchise has been restored. Featuring a nice (if sometimes uneasy) mix of old-school Bond and the newer, darker, more mature Bond, "Skyfall" is probably the best entry since Goldeneye. It isn't perfect, the shift to Straw Dogs/Home Alone was lame, and I could do without CGI komodos, but the opening action scenes alone are worth the entry cost.

It's my favorite Bond film. The cinematography especially is incredibly impressive, but I love the locations, and the story is simple enough and personal enough that it works well imo, like Casino Royale.

Great setpieces and very well directed in general. Javier Bardem is a memorable villain. The script is solid, though all the "hacking"-stuff is a bit silly.

While Skyfall fell victim to one of the same problems I had with QoS - lack of one identified "Bond Girl" - it is in most every other sense a significant upgrade; the action felt more purposeful, the pace was much more suited to James Bond vs. generic action star #431, and the primary villain is not only portrayed by the phenomenal Javier Bardem, but is simply *better*. Would've liked to have seen mention of either Vesper or Mathis. The Bond reboot is moving in the right direction. See Skyfall!

Effort has been expended to increase the sophistication, pursuing themes to do with changing times and getting old, but despite the general classiness of the production, the feelings of tedium and meaninglessness associated with this franchise gradually dominate. The very simple story about the vengeful desires of a rogue agent might conceivably be understood as an allegory about the West creating its own monsters, but the film is ultimately a defence of the need for a secret security apparatus.

This movie gets everything as right as a Bond movie can. Much better directed than the two previous installments, and even though the plot drags at points and exposition is slightly putting off, it's a thoroughly enjoyable movie.

I have to make a confession: I'm not a Bond fan. In fact, the only Bond films I've seen are those since Daniel Craig has donned the title. I don't dislike the films, they've just never been a part of my life. I have to say, though, that Skyfall - Bond or not - is an impeccable action film - just bloody impeccable. Mendes is a powerful orchestrator (the Nolan influence is there but only just), Deakins deserves an Oscar, and Bardem is an absolute delight in the villain role. Intense fun.
