The upsides of this indie film are that it offers a non-mainstream take on the high school movie, chooses plot elements that feel refreshing, and introduces new acting talent. The main downsides are the clichéd characters of Manic Pixie Dream Girl and Unconfident Loser Boy, the obvious plot arc, and that none of the latter-stage gay internet romance is at all believable. In short, it's a bit like a fanfic; hugely interesting at first but sorely lacking the talent of what it pays tribute to.
