The film deals extensively with themes of death, masculinity, as well as adolescent perceptions of love, friendship and sexuality. Sleeping Giant portrays a summer filled with euphoric moments as well as difficult times. The relationship between the boys is never predictable, yet always feels authentic. There will never again be a summer so intensely felt, so alive, so valuable to the forming of their characters. (imdb)

Life-like but pointless film with mostly annoying characters.

I've had some tumultuous Catan games myself, but nothing like that. In all seriousness, I don't think I've seen a movie that captures being a Canadian skid so well and with such honesty. Could fit in well with stuff by Arnold, Linklater, Van Sant, etc. that it can nail a coming of age piece of Americana(Canadiana?). Very excited to see where Cividino goes from here.

Some of the worst parts of being a teenager.

I want to rate this higher, since I thought it captured so much in its naturalistic depiction of teenagers. The ending of the movie just leaves you with this, "Is that it?" feeling. It feels like the movie ran out of funding and they just had to slap the end credits on because they couldn't afford to film the last 2 pages of the script.

Great screenplay. Great characters immersed into one very realistic atmosphere, but the way the story turns out ends up affecting the movie as a whole.

The filming and editing are done very well. The writing isn't good but isn't terrible either. The story toes the line between captivating and dull, but the pacing and editing are just good enough to mostly put it in the former camp. The acting, aside from Jackson Martin's character, is mostly bad. The characters aren't all that likeable or interesting. There's really no point to the film. Ultimately, it's the editing, cinematography and attention to detail that make this film stand out.
