"The film refuses to pass judgment on the controversial photog, letting him do his own thing." - Paul Schrodt

Gallela represented the dregs of the celebrity exploitation biz during his 1970s heyday, but now it's Perez Hilton's world and the aging photog just looks quaint in it. Gast gets mileage out of the contrast, especially in a sequence in which Gallela's pursuit of Robert Redford at a gala seems as benign as can be, even to his quarry. The film is too perfunctory, a bland recitation of old stories. Gallela may not be colorful enough or significant enough to hang a feature-length documentary on.

Interesting insight into a character that I've never heard of previously, so in that regard it was good. But the actual structure of the doc was pretty bad. It was a bit all over the place, and barely had a consistent string connecting the seemingly fragmented pieces.

A couple of anecdotes about this wacky Paparazzo. I thought the doc was building up towards a moment of affinity between him and Jackie, so the anticlimax of her still paying him dust when her taxi broke down on 7th Ave was pretty amusing.
