The events take place at one of the mines in Krivoy Rog. Petr Chumak, after graduation, was appointed chief engineer of the mine. From the very first days of work, Chumak has been the initiator of innovative methods of coal mining. The most fierce opponent of his proposals is the head of the mining department Alexei Zheleznyak (Arkady Tolbuzin). The confrontation between young specialists is complicated by the fact that Zheleznyak is the brother of Peter's wife. (Odesa Film Studio)
