Lazy Smurf wasn't in the movie because he was too busy making it. One of the worst executed ideas for a movie I've ever seen. And to top it all off, they throw some shitty Meghan Trainor song at the end that is as stupid and lazy as the movie. This is why North Korea should be mad at Sony, not that stupid Jonah Hill movie.

More squarely kid-focused than its predecessors (and desperately missing Hank Azaria), this is a passable but bland reboot, which is served adequately by its new voice cast (except for Roberts who unfortunately sounds as if she's down a well being held at gunpoint). Bounces in fits and starts, but ultimately forgettable.

This doesn't really stand out as a smurf story, as they could have replaced them with ponies or trolls or whatnot and the plot wouldn't have changed much. The story was pretty much a generic: "flashy fantasy forest with dangers in it and stereotypical sylvestre people". Though the CGI was good and the visuals vibrant. The designs, humour, voice acting, and characterization were much better than previous attempts. Kids risk liking it and finding it cute hence I am more generous. I liked the cat.

Surprisingly fantastic animation, and I loved my time in this imaginative and vibrantly colourful world! The Smurfette origin story gets pushed front and centre yet again but they get away with it when the movie is otherwise entertaining. Credit as well for introducing a gender equality aspect to what had obviously been a 'male oriented' set of characters without it feeling forced or that they were making any 'girls are equal to boys' political statement.

Thankfully, this newest Smurf flick sorta shoves, er, Smurfs that cynical strategy onto the junk heap and goes back to the kid-movie drawing board. Frankly, the Smurfs: The Lost Village's creators do something really brave: They make a movie ... just for kids.

Visually blue for a story that's blond. Nevertheless, I grew up on the Smurfs, so even if this is a mash of colorful nonsense, like every animation film released nowadays, I had to enjoy it at some level.
