Redford's hacker is blackmailed by agents to retrieve a dangerous code-breaking device along with his eclectic team of infiltrators. The impressively assembled cast do well but the story is lacking somewhat - Kingsley's villain is too thinly developed and the key heist is relatively drab, and hardly suspenseful. It's a light-hearted and fun caper, and there are some brief moments of good comedy, however it's quite forgettable overall.

Only realistic hacking movie I've seen so far. Granted, it's still not the real thing, but I dig the old style phreaking anti-MaBell type stuff.

If you can look past the outdated tech stuff, and the cheesiness of it all, the audience is actually rewarded with a great screenplay that has a very current message for a 22 year old film. The continuity of the ensemble cast was a surprisingly pleasant treat. Nobody feels thrown in; everybody has a part to play. Even Mary McDonnell's character who at first appears to be a throw away love interest ends up being vital to the plot. It won't blow you away but for a light movie it can be kinda deep.

It's fun. Suspend your disbelief, don't pick apart the spots where the technology is impossible, and let yourself be entertained. The characters are entertaining, acting is decent, and it has an interesting story.

When I saw Mission Impossible, I could only think "Holy crap, Tom Cruise just ripped off Sneakers!" The only differences: MI was more expensive, Sneakers had better twists, and Sneakers had a much better cast. Very underrated...

A hacker movie for the older (ahem) generation. It's ironic that the movie is ten times better than any other hacker movie out there. Sorry Angelina Jolie.

It's a fun, intelligent, and even humorous (sometimes darkly humorous) adventure into our privacy at stake. As to whether it can be called cyberpunk... WHO CARES? You'll definitely like watching Sneakers and trying to decide for yourself And while you watch this gem, keep this almost Matrix-like observation in mind: "... I learned that everything in this world, including money, operates not on reality. -- But the perception of reality."

Honestly, how could any movie starring Robert Redford, Sidney Poitier, and Dan Aykroyd be bad? Sneakers (1992) is probably one of the more realistic movies about hacking. Now, it definitely isn't that realistic, but in comparison with a movie like Hackers, it might as well be a documentary.

A classic movie about nerds and the paths they choose in life as they age. The first (and last) movie I ever saw on laser disc has always left an impression on me not because of the technology, but because the interaction of characters reminds me greatly of humanity and our struggle with it.

Amazing cast. The story was interesting but the details were sketchy at best. It moves quickly and there is some good excitement, intrigue and humor. The plot is like a mission impossible and it predates those movies. Good music and production quality. There were many far fetched plot points. Putting the defects aside, the movie was fun and enjoyable to watch and the ending was satisfying.

Surprisingly for a "hacker" movie, mostly still stands up 20 years later. It's just not much better than "all right", despite the all-star cast. I wish the movie had examined some of the ramifications of the "black box" in more detail and forgone some of the twists, but that's probably asking too much.

To be honest, when you have a cast like this, they could read the Denny's menu and still get at least a 90 on Criticker from me. Fortunately, the script, direction and score elevate it to nearly a classic in my book.

Leisurely paced techno thriller is really just an old-fashioned heist film in 'modern' clothes; the tech details have long since dated into absurdity, and the film is far too long (and laid-back) to be satisfying. A cracker of an all-star cast are fun to watch, but film would have been better if some of its characters had been melded and streamlined; note Aykroyd, Phoenix and Poitier are often awkwardly stranded with nothing to do. Almost undone by a laughably absurd final act (and scene).

I've seen a lot of Robert Redford films over the years most of which I can't really remember. This is one of those. This had the potential and the star power to be a fun and highly entertaining little spy thriller/caper film but instead against all odds it settled into mediocrity. It's not terrible just a whole lot of nothing, all the actors are sleep walking through their roles. Robert Redford is just doing more of the same as always which is wasting my time.

a very 1992 movie — no one was still quite sure what a blockbuster looked like, and so they took a chance on a Something for Everyone project featuring a bunch of incredible talents and Dan Aykroyd. it's a pleasant enough watch, even if it feels almost deliberately designed to be indistinct and unmemorable. Strathairn is a highlight

Corny techno-'thriller', would've preferred if they'd played it straighter. Coming a year after PGP was created it could have dug into some of the possible consequences of encryption. Settled for a silly spy/heist instead of a more interesting, but perhaps less commercial cyberpunk tale.

A frequently light humored Mission Impossible precursor. The ensemble work well though the first hour leans too heavily on Redford's lead character with such a wealth of talent available. The constant stream of funny lines make it perfectly watchable although the plot is fairly forgettable overall.

Very good movie with an excellent cast and solid premise but my God the soundtrack was just horrendous. It didn't fit with the film at all. It felt like a fantastic spy movie but with the soundtrack to Peter Pan or some fairy tale none sense. I don't know what the hell happened hear because normally I enjoy James Horner's work but this felt so out of place it took me right out of the film.
