Let me get this straight. You cast Kristen Stewart; I'm going to say that again; Kristen Stewart in a role where her whole reason for being is that she is supposed to be more beautiful than Charlize Theron? Who's casting this movie, Stevie Wonder?

Soulless and often boring. Stewart is completely wrong for this role, and she does a terrible job, giving what's basically a non-performance. On the other end of the spectrum, Theron goes pretty crazy with hers - which is both entertaining and somewhat grating. Hemsworth and the parade of stars playing the dwarves acquit themselves well enough, but there is no one good reason to go see this more-or-less watchable, competently produced but ultimately too uninspired dud.

Interesting to see a darker adaption to the story, but it fails to deliver in most places. Casting, pacing and script all in the limelight here to name a few. A couple of good scenes dotted here and there, but overall you just get the feeling of being endlessly dragged along scene by scene to an ending that is already extremely well known.

Another dark and "realistic" re-imagination of a classic fairytale. It works for the most part because it sticks to the elements which made the classic memorable. It's puzzling why anyone in the kingdom would believe Kirsten Stewart is the "fairest" of them all when Hemsworth is more beautiful and i'm a straight dude. Theron is absolutely great. The CGI deserves special mention for how well done it is. There's no plot or character depth here in this Snow White incarnation unfortunately.

I once paid $18 for an IMAX showing of this, only to fall right asleep. That nap was quite memorable, maintaining persistence through surround fucking sound speakers, and I never found the need to seek out the film itself. Anyway, I finally see it, and surprise, surprise: it is a lazily made, formulaic moobie. Kristen Stewart's Snow White is beautiful, but wooden, and Chris Hemsworth impressed me with his effort. Nothing else of note. Ultimately, that nap was tops compared to this.

A mostly poor film with some strong elements that make it all the more frustrating - notably the gorgeous cinematography/production design/costuming, Theron chewing the scenery, and the freakily high-caliber cast playing the dwarves. But the story is dull fantasy paint-by-numbers, the final showdown between (spoilers, I guess, but not really) Snow White and the Queen is just astonishingly anticlimactic, and Kristen Stewart is awful. Could they not find Emily Browning's phone number or something?

Disappointing in the fact that it is sometimes beautifully filmed and there are some stunning effects. The dwarves are mostly wasted and Hemsworth at times sounds like a Sly Stallone impersonation. Stewart is terrible as she is in everything I have ever seen her in and even Threron who is normally dependable comes off a bit hammy. It isn't awful and it is probably worth watching once for some eye candy.

Watching Kristen Stewart do her thing in these miscast roles is rough. The screenplay has no idea what it wants to be, as we witness a fairytale attempt to be an epic as it woefully fills 127 minutes. While the dark visuals are often pretty awesome, the direction and cast struggle. Theron and her T-1000 mirror are entertaining, but even she becomes tiresome with her overacting.

Therón, her costumes and some inspired themes (i.e. the nature of power for each gender) and visual moments (the Mononoke Hime-ripoff, great to behold) can't overcome the clumsy direction and abysmal screenplay.

Aesthetically brilliant, with a strong performance from Hemsworth, an entertaining performance from Theron, and an improvement from her usual roles for Stewart. Unsurprisingly, Kristen Stewart is the weak spot in this movie. She has about one and a half facial expression and every time she tries to emote, she looks like she's passing gas. Most notably in her great speech; it would be difficult to pull off for any actress, since it's mostly gibberish, but when Stewart starts with 'Frost to fire' she sounds like a homeless person ranting on the street. While Chris Hemsworth gives a solid performance, there's far too little of him to make this worth it.

Well mounted if overly grim fairytale is sparked by handsome production/set design, a deliciously evil supporting performance from Theron and likable performances from Stewart and Hemsworth. Unfortunately the film's screenplay is far too derivative of similar TWILIGHT-era fantasy tales, which means there are very few surprises along the way; the bizarre casting choice of respected British full-sized actors as dwarves is also a distracting conceit. Still, a fair way to pass a couple of hours.

Besides a slew of capable actors playing the dwarfs and Chris Hemsworth giving it his all, you still feel every minute of this 127 minute reimagining. Theron seems to be getting a pass for this, which I assume is because she is a well respected actress because this wasn't her strongest role. It's not completely her fault though, as she is playing an incredibly melodramatic role opposite the emotionless lip quivering lump that is Kristen Stewart.

There's genuine magic here--S.W.'s discovery of a white horse, a fairy sanctuary, the witchcraft of the evil queen--encased in a lovely production, well-directed and well-acted (Kristen Stewart shows just how much she's capable of; Charlize Theron, Chris Hemsworth, and Bob Hoskins don't disappoint)...but hamstrung by a choppy script which gives many of the characters (especially the dwarves) little to do and wastes much of its excessive length. A beautiful, engaging, but very frustrating film.

Or, RUNNING AROUND IN THE WOODS: THE MOVIE. A mixed bag. It's boring and talky in parts, but there are other parts--the giant troll, the tiny fairies, those awesome dwarves--that are pretty great. Could have used a whole lot more complexity at both the screenwriting and directorial levels, and somebody needed to put a frigging leash on Theron, who's ridiculously, histrionically over the top, but I'm glad I saw this. Not sure if I'd rush out to see it again anytime soon, though.

Not as visually stunning as I'd hoped but every bit as meandering and basic as I'd feared, Snow White and the Huntsman marks a huge missed opportunity to spin a classic yarn with a more realistic thread. All the leads come up quite short, but the eight dwarves certainly highlight the character department. Too bad their role is nigh inconsequential and severely underdeveloped.

Charlize Theron almost makes up for this mess of a film, as she was fantastic. Kristen Stewart was an obvious miscast. Charlize Theron is absolutely terrific in this, but unfortunately the story soon shifts away from her towards the titular characters portrayed by the Incredible Charmless Duo Stewart-Hemsworth. Surprisingly I didn't hate it! The basics of a solid fantasy adventure are there & at no point was anything so awful that I was aghast! It's actually a good looking film, but it's got major issues admittedly. The pacing is horrific & the story woefully off-kilter & underdeveloped both in terms of the characters & mythology. The idiotically muddled script reeks of endless rewrites & plot revisions which have clearly affected the whole film. But the cast are okay & overall it's harmless enough.

The first half is much stronger than the second half. Some of the fantasy-wilderness cinematography is quite beautiful and incredibly immersive. There is an eerie sense of quiet throughout the first portion of the film. The later portion gives Kristen Stewart more lines, and this is a bad, bad mistake. She simply isn't believable as the leader of an army. The assault on the castle is cool and there are some great trebuchet shots, but the sense of scale is missing. Ending death is weak too.

This movie completely surprised me with its level of quality. The story is rich and full of some interesting subtext and visual themes. We're given a great deal of subtext about perversion and decay relating to Ravenna while there's a lot of natural themes surrounding Snow White. It's a beautiful film that has fairly restrained CGI and quality design. There's enough action to keep most entertained, it's well shot, and not lacking in tension. It's a well told story that I would recommend.

Sure the movie does a lot of movie things to progress the plot, cliches we've seen a million times, but great art/set design and good CGI helped create an interesting and alive fantasy world. Decent enough premise. 'Shoot a kids fairy story as an adult adventure' and for the most part it works well enough, thanks to the generally good cast (although sad to say, not perhaps the key players themselves) and the really excellent set design. The main problem with the film is whether an "adult" snow white can still be an "innocent virgin that brings the flowers out in bloom" ... the script never quite pulls that paradox off, and without a central romance, the film lacks real emotion

Great graphics.. terrible EVERYTHING else. Instead of making a nice adventure film or nice love story, or even a nice tragedy, they decided to make an Epic Fantasy Love Drama Tragedy that just throws in elements from every genre without care for how they might actually mix or tell a story. There's a fakey "we'll name drop lots of made-up stuff to give the illusion of a rich world of lore". There's the contrived romance. Jumpy storytelling with no development. An overly serious, overly long film which desperately needs a better sense of pacing, a sense of humor, and a sense of who it's protagonist is. Attempts to circumvent the idea of a damsel in distress but rather comes across as a movie about the Huntsman rather than Snow White. When the art design isn't trying to ape the Lord of the Rings, the sets are fantastic. Charlize Theron chews the scenery very well. Kristen Stewart is a non-entity as the title character. Stewart's slouchy, I'm-bummed persona is an ill fit & Theron's feminist subtext is trashed early on 4 formula. Since this is really a female power fantasy, the heroine's given TWO perfect loving hunks she gets 2 choose from. This choice offers some unpredictability: who will she pick? & how will the film handle the problem this poses 4 a happy ending? If she chooses 1, we'd have 2 watch a good guy get his heart broken. Unsurprisingly, the film avoids any ugliness by quickly rolling the credits.

What I really appreciate is how well-lighted the film is. Too many movies seem to rely on dim lighting in order to set the mood, but the audience's interpretation of the action is horribly affected by this decision. Beautiful visuals and music. It reminded me of Tron: Legacy which I also liked. Excellent villains and a refreshing retelling of an old fairy tale. My two biggest complaints are the redundancy of two male protagonists which would have been better merged into a single character and the overall story feeling a bit rushed because of how much ground needed to be covered. I liked Kristen before she started doing the Twilight movies and it was nice to see her in something new.

The mood, the villainous Theron, the bulking Hemsworth, the entire dread of it all, it's a massive accomplishment. But... the film has a bit of a saggy midsection, Stewart who is stuck in Bella-land, and the most crucial missing ingredient---a passionate romance. Every sequence without Charlize Theron is inconsequential, and every sequence with her is gorgeous if not high cinema.

This was one of the movies that I'd been looking forward to for months, and it was a BIG letdown. The cinematography is gorgeous, and Theron is occasionally fascinating, but the bad outweighs the good. It takes a looooooong time to get started, Stewart's performance is halting and unconvincing (in particular during her "rouse the troops" speech), and no-one can decide on an accent. *Spoiler* They also completely wimp out on the "true love's kiss" angle. All in all, just read the fairy tale.

The visual design is actually quite striking yet strangely subtle in many scenes. It also has a really interesting and even tragic take on the Evil Queen's character. However, the biggest problem is the title character. Kristen Stewart really turns in a dog of a performance. Every time she's on screen, she practically screams "I'm acting!" And her character arc is not all that believable or makes you care about her. A title character that unlikable really drags the film down.
