Jerry McGuire (William Collier Jr.) is a dress designer in love with shop-girl Hilda Jenson (Shirley Mason). But the problem is that prizefighter Spike Mullins (Johnny Walker) is also in love with Hilda. Jerry, undaunted by the obvious fact that , physically speaking, is no match for the bull-like Spike. Jerry Takes a few boxing lessons and, aided by Hilda, who deliberately overfeeds Spike before the big fight between the two rivals.

This was one of seven films he directed that year. With that schedule, this wasn't going to be the type of touching films he would make during the sound era. He started by directing comedy shorts and this was the next step in his directorial career, making hour long programmers. This one a boxing romance. Mildly humorous. More a light feel, than a laugh out experience. But Capra was already such a talent behind the camera that he made it work, regardless of the material not being the best.
