Some Guy Who Kills People

Subtly dark and thoroughly weird--though this film has a definite indie feel, it never stumbles upon the trademark indie landmines that can pulverize a film's legs, turning it into an un-moving pile of brooding angst and minor 7th chords. I didn't even mind the soundtrack, which was effectively used to enhance scenes, and not forced down my throat like a cinnamon espresso-flavored anime tentacle.

Had a contrived, cop out ending, the kid didn't bother me (kids usually do) and a it had a few laughs, mostly involving the mother. This whole script could have done with some serious revisions, but it was watchable movie.

Top badass moment? As a minor plot-line, this film includes issues around custardy of a young girl. Fortunately this gets sorted out in about 15 seconds. I thought these things are meant to take ages and cost a fortune? Was this just lazy writing, or have I been brainwashed for years by the legal profession bent on maximising what it gets from the misery of others? Regardless, the DIY result in this movie is badass. 1 decapitation, no cats or chainsaws. A clean if somewhat messy cut; off in one.

With its quiet and awkward style, "Some Guy" is a nice change from more competent but uniform movies. It is a movie with small, weird characters and small, weird jokes. The second half is too long and a bit boring, and in the end you aren't left with a feeling that you have watched something great. It's kind of a midnight movie, and you'll like it more if you're in a midnight movie mood. You don't have to watch it but I don't think you'll regret it if you do, provided that you are in that mood.

Kind of different and funny.

I wish there was more emphasis on the dark side and they should have left out the comedic elements. Other than that it is a bizarre, but entertaining film.

As horror-comedy goes, this is a solid one; a dark, dark movie that keeps its tongue planted firmly in cheek. A witty, offbeat screenplay and nice performances from Bostwick and Corrigan make it worth a watch.
