Actually, the sailor wants nothing to do with the boy, who we eventually find out is an orphan who ran away from the orphanage, trying to find a new Mom and Dad. The sailor, not knowing anything about the boy, thinks he'll be more successful hitchhiking alone back to his ship. It's the boy who has the idea of pretending to be the sailor's kid, jumping into his arms, pretending to be a sick kid, prompting a well-meaning woman to pick them both up. (imdb)

Son of the Navy 1940 ?? Watched 01 Sep, 2016 Monogram actually managed to make a straight forward and cute little charmer! A orphan on the run tries to get a couple of strangers to marry so he'll have a family. Isn't that adorable? And the cast made it work alright too! Jean Parker did her best Jean Arthur impression and James Dunn could do this type a role in his sleep (but keep everybody else awake). Young Martin Spellman did well too linking it all together.
