Son of the Pink Panther

Possibly the most creative intro sequence of the series, with Mancini's theme in scat form as our animated pink mischief maker dances around the musicians. Excellent start to a very poor show. Humour spread so thin that the toast is dry. It's incredible how after 7 films & finally letting Clouseau rest that Edwards is this persistently formulaic. There's little to set Son apart from the approach 30 years ago, with repeated gags & Sellers' absence leaving a gaping hole in its funny bone.

Shame on Blake Edwards for continuing the franchise after Sellers died and shame on Benigni for even trying.

Much better than I expected, and I REALLY didn't expect much, hence the okay rating. I'm a fan of the PP series, so quite a degree of goofiness comes with the territory.

Beningi is the spawn of The Author of All Lies himself, whose humor equates to something like: kicking the back of your shoe in the DMV waiting line of life, laughing at you, and then just before you clock him in the face for such a lack of humanistic empathy, says, "You forgot you were in line at the DMV! Laugh with me!" And then you're reminded just how shitty your life is, but you can't hit him because that would lower you to his level.

Roberto Benigni is an undeniably gifted physical comic, but the misguided Son of Pink Panther betrays his energetic efforts with a painfully unfunny script.
