Söndagsbarn

This autobiographical drama by Berman's son isn't half-bad. The scenes with Ingmar and his father aren't very interesting, but Henrik Linnros is good as little Pu.

Bergman Jr's directing debut is confident to the point where he occasionally over- rather than underplays his hand, and his dad's script is much tighter than The Good Intentions even if it does require some background knowledge to really hit home. What it all shakes down to is a very nice, warm picture about father-son relationships and how they can't always be mended, with a welcome amount of self-criticism by Bergman Sr. Berggren and Linnros are both excellent.
