Song hua jiang shang

There was a lot to like about this directly after WWII movie. However, there were a lot of stylistic choices that I felt took away from the film as well, namely the score.

Aesthetically it reminds me of Soviet cinema from the 1930s with studio dubbed dialogue and noises and poetic imagery. Being made right after the war, the subject was naturally how a small village was abused by the Japanese and building up for the revolt. And it did deliver a fairly compelling story which reached its climax in a great way. Production is a little quirky, but there is a sense of brutal realism to this uprising.
