There may be 3 or 4 funny moments, but the rest is just stupid, strained, badly executed attempts at making people laugh. The slapstick is weak and predictable, the funny faces are not amusing, the dialogue is not witty and way too much of everything is drawn out, as if making you wait for the obvious "joke" that can be seen coming a mile away makes it better. Worst of all is Laurel and Hardy acting as if their wives were their mothers. It's overused, nonsensical and offensively unfunnny.

It feels like one long joke that wasn't funny in the first place. According to someone, this is supposed to be the duo's best picture, but I don't really know who that someone is.

Often considered Laurel & Hardy's best film. I guess I'm just not a big fan of their brand of comedy.

My first Laurel and Hardy film. It's funny enough though obviously not a cinematic classic. Probably more of a popcorn film back in the day. The wives were more interesting, especially the duck hunting one. The drawn out pauses were probably for laughs back then. Otherwise the film felt relatively modern, as if it could have been set in the '60s without feeling out of place. Fav scene: sons of the desert rituals.

This is much better in the form of sitcoms that have lifted the skeleton of the plot.

Probable the best movie Laurel & Hardy ever made! I love this one. A lot of silly stuff with one the greatest ends in comedy history! Just the sight on Laurel's wife spoiling her man by fluffing his hair just like he normally do is just an iconic Stan Laurel moment for me! And the war in Oliver's Hardy's home just as fantastic!

Doesn't need to be feature length but I always get a kick out of Laurel and Hardy.

Stan and Ollie belong to a fraternal order ... the Sons of the Desert ... and have promised to attend their convention in Chicago. Hardy's wife won't let him go, so he fakes illness and pays a doctor to tell his wife that what he needs is a trip to Honolulu. They pretend to go to Hawaii, but go to Hawaii, but go to the convention instead. This thin premise is used to basically create an hour of very gifted physical slapstick. This is great stuff.

This comedy stumbles a little out of the gate, but then starts to become funny almost in spite of itself. There are a lot of talky malaprops and some basic slapstick routines pasted onto a thread-bare plot. Even though their escapades are pretty ridiculous, there's a little bit of "everyman" problems peeking through, which helps make this enjoyable in the end.

Hardy can't stop looking past that fourth wall! The physicality of the opening sequence stands above the rest of the film. There are other amusing moments, to be sure, but after that opening, the film comes in for a gentle and rather long landing.

Easy going fun and enjoyable- but the slapstick humour is quite cartoonishly violent and the character don’t appear relevant for today which makes it seem very dated .

The best part for me in this fairly average outing was the fact that the women got in on the physical comedy.
