A potpourri-scented hotchpotch of slumgullion and salmagundi, Southbound is a scatterbrain's carpet bag of confusing clutter. The dots are there, but are connected about as well as octogenarian with arthritis might connect them...would that she could hold the pencil. And as an allegory for Hell, Southbound works about as well as a sexy Vampire costume on sale at Walmart the day after Halloween.

Great test reel. Now write one of these scripts properly.

The most entertaining of these horror anthology flicks since the original V/H/S. Perhaps the key to success for these movies is to give the filmmakers more limitations, like "make a short horror piece involving the highway and make sure it somehow connects at least a little to the short horror piece before/after it."

Floating reapers are the best image, but the hit and run is the best story. I really enjoyed the way that one played out. I mean as much as you can enjoy something so abhorrent. Pleasantly unpleasant.

Hayatımda izlediğim en kötü filmlerden biri 5,9 imdb puanı bile haksızlık. Aşırı ama aşırı saçmalık. Tarifi imkansız

Doesn't seem to be a lot of love for this - my PSI was 48 - but I loved it. Great nightmarish atmosphere throughout. One of the better horror anthologies I've ever seen, & even the wraparound was really good. I feel like a cantankerous old man when I start ranting about how cheap practical effects are so much better & more effective than cheap CGI, so I won't. Other than that minor quibble, excellent watch.

A nicely linked selection of short tales. Kind of a Lovecraftian feel to it with a smidgen of Clive Barker. Worth watching.

If you want a fun drinking game, take a shot every time a main character projects any kind of emotion or changes their facial expression. You'll be sober enough to drive a god damn school bus.

Southbound is the most seamless horror anthology I've ever seen. It has no frame story. Instead the stories just flow into each other, keeping a fairly consistent tone to create something whole in the vein of surreal chillers like Gimli Hospital, Inland Empire or Calvin Reeder's stuff. There's a little bit of schlock and that corny attempt at symbolizing guilt, but for the most part I found it a refreshing and satisfying film.

One of the problems with anthologies or films with multiple plot-lines is that you have to start all over again building tension whenever you introduce a new story, also you have to tell the whole story in a short amount of time. This attempts to cut time by simply making stories with no backstory so you have to guess what's going on. Still enjoyed it despite its flaws

This movie has some bright spots. I liked the segment featuring the three girls who enter a Satanist family's house. This is followed by my favorite segment where a man tries to save someone he hit with his car in a ghost town. The rest of the run time was close to unwatchable, making Southbound a hard movie to recommend. If you see it streaming, I would recommend skipping to the stories mentioned above, but I don't think it stands up as a whole.

There are a lot of horror anthologies out there these days, this one has a few good segments so it's better than most of them.

I enjoyed the way Southbound told it's story. The vignette style fit this story well. I liked who the stories fit in with each other. The mix of believability and otherworldliness of this movie worked nicely for this movie. I was pulled in to the stories by the characters and the situations that seemed real or believable at first but there was some over-the-top stuff that made this movie a cool horror movie. It wasn't a perfect movie but it was fun.

Not all the stories are quite on the same level, but some of them are super creepy, like the flying reapers and the girl getting hit by a car. It's a whole thing of 'you're actually in Hell' type of stuff and this kind of horror is really my jam even if it did sometimes fall a little bit short script-wise.

I knew it would end like that. I think the second story was the creepiest. (Music band girls.)

One of the best horror anthology flicks in years. Each story is different enough, and the gimmick used to tie them together is just a good screenplay and directing. A good find for horror buffs who like to tread off the beaten path.

Better than V/H/S/. The 'Hit and Run' section was a really cool bit of surrealism.

Thought this was a pretty decent try, at least competently shot. I wouldn't mind giving this directors a shot when they get their shiz together.

Some interesting qualities and moments but overall probably too close, for my tastes, to a sub-genre I mostly dislike: quasi-religious semi-noir horror. I guessed this would be the case from the redemption talk in the opening narration-in-the-form-of-a-radio-dj.

2024'de #IzlediğimFilmler ; 30. Southbound (2015) Uzun zamandır izlediğim en iyi antoloji serilerinden. Bence V/H/S'den daha iyi. Hikayeler arası kurgusu da çok çok iyi. 8/10

Works somewhat well (at least the stories were interwoven, as promised) but a bit too vague overall. Each story could have been stretched out an extra 5 minutes, seeing as the running time is only 88 minutes.

5 half-decent throwaway horror stories, but I wouldn't have minded swapping 4 of them for one proper story.

Good atmosphere and tension, one story immediately flows into the next, leaving a consistent tone throughout. One of the better horror anthologies I have seen.
