A group of '80s kids gets launched into space, and it's just as awesome/awful as that sounds.

This documentary about the Challenger shuttle explosion is not actually about the Challenger shuttle explosion, but instead about a camp where kids go to learn about space. Camp. Starring Lea Thompson before she became Michael J. Fox's hot mom, Tom Skerrit as that guy who looks like that guy you see in every movie but can't remember his name (a.k.a. Tom Skerrit), and Johnny 5...because all 80s movies had to have a robot sidekick. It's 2017, and I'm still waiting for *my* robot sidekick..

I'm sorry, I know film involves fantasy and impossible and unlikely things but a space shuttle with fuel in the tank and keys in the igntion? No. They do their eighties best but no.

Definitely truth in advertising. If this got any campier, I'd have poison oak.

A movie I watched countless times as a kid. Seeing again recently I was actually quite shocked at how bad it was; I genuinely remembered it as being a fairly good movie! The effects, the acting, the robot sidekick were all pretty cool in my warped memory! I have to give it some nostalgia marks because I wasted hours of my life on this movie as a youngster.

The characters are all fairly intriguing, but none of them are as fleshed out as they could have been. Beyond that, the plot structure is a jumbled mess, the pacing is very off, and the ending is so sudden that it's almost disappointing. Decent performances are marred by awful dialogue, and it's clear that they had no idea what they wanted their target audience to be- it feels like a teen movie at times, a family comedy or sci-fi adventure in others. Watchable, but nothing worth watching twice.

Sorta cool if you're a kid obsessed with space, I guess. But not really.

Tolerable entertainment for ten-year-olds, who may enjoy its empowerment of the young, and will be willing to overlook the ordinary special effects that include a rather irritating robot.

I remember watching this in third grade, and even way back then I distinctly remember thinking "this doesn't make a whole lot of sense." I'm going to assume that I would hold that same viewpoint seeing the movie today.

Terrible kids sci-fi/fantasy flick about student astronauts accidentally launched into orbit. Weak effects, awful acting and like most post-Star Wars sci-fi films aimed at a younger audience, it has an obnoxious robot sidekick.

Schmaltzy goofy 80's kid movie with a premise right out of Sid and Marty Krofft (the kids acccidentally end up in space! whaaat?!) that was filmed the just before the Challenger disaster and released just after the Challenger disaster. "Talk about your marketin' nightmare - yeesh!" Bad acting, bad directorial choices, lame script, irritating buddy robot BUT great score by John Williams, great cinematography by William A. Fraker, and great set design. It all evens out to a score of "meh."

This is definitely a kids movie. The kids are dumb. NASA is incompetent. A stupid robot violates what minimal security is present. Yet it's silly fun. I wanted to jettison Max into space. MORSE CODE. Fav scene: when they're all chilling in the dorms...makes it seem like a real cool experience.
